Virtual Rush - bad idea

by: Virtual

Going back to the thread about spring rush, how is virtual rush in the fall a good idea FOR THE PNMS? Not for the sorority house like the advisor on here keeps barking. Except for the in-state girls who already know they’ll pledge where there friends are, it will be Rushing while sitting in your new dorm room, talking to girls you do not know, pledging to a house you’ve never stepped foot in, committing a lot of money, and not having anything like what it should be. Wait til the spring and give these girls what they deserve. If not better, what is lost? Not money for one.

Better for the PNMs? Do you think it’s realistic to make meaningful connections with a stranger while sitting six feet away with a mask on? Having never seen what the other person looks like and straining to hear what they’re saying? Also, a lot of girls are coming from highly impacted areas and may not feel safe or comfortable going into an in person event- it’s not right for them to feel like the odd man out or feel pressured to attend an in person event.

No in person events for rush increases the likelihood there is in person events throughout the semester (eating at the house, new member meetings, sisterhood events, etc).

I don’t understand why everyone’s so upset about not being in person lol. Auburn doesn’t even have houses and everyone finds their fit just fine. Also I think people are forgetting, a majority of PNMs won’t be making hard decisions or cuts- the chapters will be doing this for them.

It’s better for PNMs because it keeps everyone safe. Who says things will be better by spring? Also, joining a sorority isn’t mandatory. Defer if you want. No ones making you rush this year.

Get off Greek rank, mom. Go back to the mom Facebook page.

Are you on the Facebook page ... not sure how you’d make that statement otherwise!

The post suggested spring, not in person fall rush. At the worst, it would be the same. Better, you’d get to run to your new sorority, have met girls on campus in the fall so you’d have a fairer rush, would visit the houses, and be able to do all the fun things your daughter got to do lol.

Lots of schools have spring rush- it’s a lot more fair and in this case, better than a virtual rush and paying for an experience that isn’t happening.

Going to be real here. The “hardest” sororities to get in will already have their bid lists pretty set with virtual rush. It makes it very difficult on girls without connections or out of state. Delaying rush is most fair solution in that regard.

Let’s not pretend those houses don’t have their bid lists basically picked out every year...come on now. You’ve always needed connections to get into certain houses. If anything it would be LESS fair to wait until spring because girls could choose to only make friends in a certain house because they want a bid from them, giving them WAY more connections than usual out of state girls usually have coming in not knowing any actives. dirty rushing and bid promising would be insane.

Getting the chance to meet people is only fair. Lists are somewhat pre-set but not all the way. Spring rush is the norm many places to allow girls to settle in, meet friends in dorms and classes. Why deny anyone the chance to have a true rush experience (May or may not be better in spring) and to save a semester of paying ? Money is tight!

Money is tight for us too...if we don’t get a new pc in the house paying dues, were all gonna have to pay THOUSANDS more to make up for it which would make tons of girls drop because they can’t afford it, which would hurt the incoming pnms experience if the house is broke and has very few members. And no, that’s not fair to have a whole semester to make friends and dirty rush because no one ever has that chance. Rush is before school starts and we get 0 chance to talk to actives like y’all have been able to do all summer. All we get are the few minutes to talk to one or 2 girls in each party before we make our decision, and y’all will have those exact same conversations over zoom for virtual rush. Stop acting like this is going to be so horrible. Also waiting until spring would hurt the “less desired” houses extremely bad because girls will not have an open mind, they will be making their decisions based on stereotypes they’ve heard on campus. Not an even playing field at all

In person rush really gives pnms an idea of the personality of the members. Even if masked. Everyone will be on their best behavior online. You won’t see them cut their eyes to their friends, fawn over other pnms while you sit there, act like themselves.

Sound good? No. Because you will end up in a house that is nothing like the video presentation. You won’t feel that welcome at certain places. You are. A. Filler. You didn’t get a chance to see where you feel comfortable.

Bad idea... if it’s not safe, go to spring.

Stop complaining. Virtual rush is happening whether you like it or not tbh. Actives have been working hard all summer for this and things are already in motion and won’t be changed. Y’all need to just accept it and try to make the best of it instead of complaining and throwing a pity party for yourself

Im not sure what the PNMs will get in turn for the cost. There wont be any social activities, group activities. Honestly, im not sure why existing actives would want to stay... they’ve already made their friends. With the high $ to be srat, it doesn’t make sense.

You’re obviously not in a srat with this kind of mindset so why are you on this site?

Y’all are absolutely idiots if you think rush in the spring would be in person. There’s projected to be a second massive wave once cold season hits in November/December. Spring rush would literally just end up being the exact same as it is now.

Ummmm....if all you guys are mad about is not seeing the houses why don’t you just complain to Panhellenic about it and get them to film virtual house tours??? Then you’re not missing out on anything??? Then your moms will stop complaining on greekrank.

I’m gonna say it. Y’all have a MASSIVE advantage with no contact lifted. Sooooo many pnms are texting actives and buttering up to them in hopes they’ll pull for them. These relationships aren’t something that happen any other year of recruitment. Sure sometimes people break no contact but not nearly as often as this year.
