Thoughts on SAE?
by: CaliforniaIm from los angeles, ca and a current member of SAE from the univeristy of Arizona, in transfering in the fall to bama... how is SAE at this school?

SAE at ASU will be nothing like SAE at UA. SAE is a pretty regular fraternity around the nation, but in the South is a hotbed of very Southern First/Traditional mentalities. Remember the Oklahoma SAE chant? You won't necessarily find Big 10 SAE chapters defending that, but you will in the South. I'm sure at ASU you had a diverse chapter, but you won't find that here.
It's worth considering disaffiliating and re-rushing at Bama, depending on your age and how badly you want to be involved with Greek life. Don't expect to come here and immediately transfer into the SAE chapter here. You would not be the first to transfer in, not get into their fraternity's chapter, then disaffiliate to re-rush.

"Most national fraternities don't bother to verify if a brother is a member of a different fraternity or at a different school."
^This
My uncle was pretty wild back in the late 1980s and went to 5 different colleges over a 7 year period and ended up joining 4 different national fraternities.
He was a dues paying member of Delt, SAE, Pike, and Lambda chi.
Large national fraternities do no cross check to see who was a member of say Sigma Chi at the University of Houston and then transferred to Florida State and went KA.
There is no way to cross check the tens of thousands of men every year who join one of the 75 national IFC fraternities with their 5,500 chapters located on over 800 campuses in the United States and Canada.
Unless someone from your high school rats you out or you have it on facebook or something there is no way for a fraternity at one school to know about if you were a member of another fraternity at another school.
Not saying anyone should do that...just saying its almost impossible to track.

If part of your master plan in transferring to UA was to be able to transfer into the SAE chapter and carry on like nothing happened at Arizona, you need to reconsider your reasons for transferring.
It is highly likely that UA SAE will not accept you as an active member. It is highly like that in order to keep being Greek, you will need to re-rush and re-pledge. You will not suddenly show up and party like a king, UA is far too tradition oriented to allow that.
Please be careful so you don't try to come here, get let down by the realities of our Greek system, and hate the remainder of your undergraduate years. There will be nothing more embarrassing than you acting like you're a god here, then having to reveal that your chapter got shutdown and UA SAE wouldn't take you.

also doubt you’ll be accepted because you didn’t go through their pledgeship
