KD isn’t the only one who does stuff like this. They’re one of the worst but most old row and quite a few new row have their ideal pc picked out wayyyy in advance. My roommates house have been picking girls they will be cutting since the end of last semester and were done with their bid list before spring break

Many houses make girls comment on insta posts of pnms. Sometimes it’s friends of friends. One times it’s their target girls for the time being. Sometimes it’s anyone who is going to Alabama. A lot of oos girls don’t get this kind of attention pre rush because they aren’t known but with no contact lifted this year maybe that will change as registration and recs roll in. It doesn’t mean much. I don’t really keep track of girls I’m commenting on personally and just will comment on the posts sent in the insta dm and sometimes in my feed. My house makes me comment so I sort of have to but getting comments is a house trying to make you feel welcome and feel some love coming onto campus. There’s probably at least one girl interested in fighting for you but because of the requirements to comment, all you need is one girl sending you to their group chat to get 40 comments. Getting comments DOES NOT guarantee you get a bid but it also can only be a positive. Just don’t get your hopes up too much and think that because your insta got attention that you will for sure have a spot in that house. So much can happen between now and then

All houses have an alumni staff in the basement making the decisions. Alpha Phi got caught at the U of M and they promised a cheerleader her roommate would get in just to get her...her roommate did not get in and never had a chance. KD is notorious for picking before rush. All houses have alums sending emails about people to girls in the house. GPA does matter if no one really knows you. All houses are hurting for money now since they had to refund money due to the pandemic. It's about money. Ask the house how many juniors and seniors they still have active. That will tell you how good the house really is.

My NR house absolutely does not have alumnae making any kind of decisions about membership aside from the chapter and rush advisors. Alumnae involvement includes writing recs and volunteering in the kitchen.

To the above comment, I’m really glad your house is being flexible about rush and not directly picking your pc. Gives me some hope for the pan community and probably means you’ll get a better pc. also my sorority does similar where we have 300 targets but don’t decide anything about who’s on our bid list until pref night and add people to the list throughout the summer and rush as we learn about them. Not a perfect system but we’re trying

Honestly it’s because we have pretty low return rates and generally our target PNMs don’t end up in the house so it would be pointless to “choose” a bid list lol. I can understand why houses who have to make massive cuts (and want to maintain a high gpa etc) do it they way they do it. I wish my house had more flexibility to do that.

My house has high return rates and cares about GPA and we still don’t pick our pledge classes before bid day. Yes we have target girls but as I said before we add to that list constantly as we find out new people and really want to evaluate every single pnm fairly and give everyone a chance. Having high return rates shouldn’t be an excuse to pick out girls and show favoritism before you even know who’s coming through rush and unfairly favors girls who went to high school with other girls in house. You end up with a more diverse group and probably a more genuine group by being flexible (at least that’s my belief) so I’m glad that y’all do it that way too and I hope y’all have a great rush!

That’s the risk. I know so many girls we wanted and followed on insta etc until rush week. Then we found out their low gpa and had to cut them. We really wanted them but that’s a deal breaker in my house and many others.

Above comment is accurate. Some houses are willing to take grade risks too and make exceptions for certain girls who they really had their heart set on. I dont personally think it’s a good practice but to each their own.

I’m not a KD so take this with a grain of salt. It might mean they want you. It certainly means they know who you are and are interested in learning about you. However, KDs are also known for being all over Instagram and for requiring girls to comment like and follow more than a lot of other houses so don’t get your hopes up too much. This goes for other houses as well. Some houses follow you because they love you. It doesn’t mean you’ll get a bid. Some houses will follow because they’re supposed to follow literally anyone they can find with Bama 24 in their bio. Getting followed on insta is definitely a good sign but doesn’t guarantee getting a bid
