open bidding

by: Mom

My daughter didn't get into our legacy house which is first circle I might add. How dare they open up bidding after rush so that any random person can get a bid while my child has to suffer in an inferior house? My headquarters will be hearing from me and other unhappy mothers!!! This is outrageous!

So what do you suggest? A do-over?

A winter recruitment for the girls that wish to withdraw from their houses. Under the new house total number

If the new member signed their card and then withdraw, they are ineligible to pledge again until 1 year later.

They're ignoring the rules already so they need to go all the way. This is totally unfair

That is true. That is why under the given circumstances. They should have a deferred recruitment that allows for withdrawal. Based on the new house totals.

Wouldn't National Panhellenic have to approve that, though? I think the one year rule was set by them and is across the board, not a campus-by-campus decision. I'm not saying NPC wouldn't make the exception, but I've never heard of a complete recruitment re-do before.

Also, what if COB doesn't work out for some of the girls who drop from houses they are currently pledging? She's leaving a house that WANTS her to try again for ones that have already released her once, and it might not have had anything to do with space. I also wonder how sororities will feel about those who bail on a pledgeship they've committed to in order to try for another one. Might not be too favorably. I don't know, though, because there are some unusual circumstances right now, but I'm not sure this is an answer for girls who wish they'd gotten in somewhere else. Of course, if she's really unhappy where she is and planning to drop before initiation anyway, I guess she'd have nothing to lose.

You don't know that they would have taken your daughter even if total had been higher... Cultivate contentedness.

I am not the original poster. But, you dont know that they wouldnt have. Some houses have legacy counts based on percentages.

That may be true for your house but not all. Don't speak for everyone when you don't have all facts.

Bad idea to re-rush and a logistical nightmare. Great girls in all of the UA sororities. Just because Total was raised to allow for COB for the rest of the school year doesn't mean All sororities will take the opportunity to add more members at this point. Be thankful and support your pledge class. All of this tent talk online is getting a little crazy.
