open bidding

by: Mom

My daughter didn't get into our legacy house which is first circle I might add. How dare they open up bidding after rush so that any random person can get a bid while my child has to suffer in an inferior house? My headquarters will be hearing from me and other unhappy mothers!!! This is outrageous!

And we wonder why the alumni have been thrown to the wolves. Perfect example by the mom that started this thread.

Maybe that "random person" is a bright, talented, beautiful soul whose family is maybe, oh I dont know, on the Board of Trustees and the only thing holding this "random person" from getting a bid the first time around was a self-important alumni whose self worth was threatened.

I can tell you that your sorority's HQ gets dozens of calls from heli-moms like yourself and that script is right by the phone for them to recite.

Bless the souls of the "inferior house" that has to deal with your ego.

Dear "Mom" of "first circle" [not] daughter... Loving this fake post you write. But please quit stirring the stew.

You know that at many campuses total is raised every year after recruitment. This is nothing new and nothing to get your panties in a bunch for.

Uh, not weeks later. This is vastly different..

I feel bad for all involved. I'm not sure if your legacy house was UA or elsewhere. But seriously, first circle wasn't even a status thing until less than five years ago. It was just another party theme. Inferior is in the eye of the tshirt maker.

Well, no. "First Circle" goes way back, back when there were not one but two street circles on sorority row. That was 50 years or so ago.

This post is obviously from a troll. No house at Alabama, never mind a "first circle" house, is taking randoms off the street. Please.

Maybe not "randoms off the street", but things are going to change and because the greek community at UA has refused to deal with this, it may be unpleasant.

@yep. Read carefully. It was not seen as a STATUS move until recently. It was a party theme forever. I'm trying very carefully not to call out the 'inferior' house that made it a status thing by latching onto more prestigious houses.

It was a status thing back then, too. And the lady that explained it all to me graduated in 1959.
