daughter is delta zeta pledge

by: DZ Mom

Where does Delta Zeta rank on the row? What type of girls are in this sorority? What is their reputation on grades, partying, looks, and money?

Get off this site! Your daughter got a bid. That's all that matters! Why would you trust anything strangers here say? Get a life and stop trying to live through her.

They rank better than KD now!

Not trying to live through her, but I want to know where my money is going. I didn't agree with this whole sorority thing anyways. I don't believe in paying for friends or needing someone to tell me where I rank. I have enough self confidence in myself. She wanted to do it and I allow her to make her own decisions at this point. I am just curious as to the rank and reputation of the bid she got. Frankly I would have been okay with her not even getting a bid.

This is perhaps the ultimate silly thread. Seriously.

DZ is a very nice middle of the road sorority. They are not so shallow as to judge on looks alone and seem to have a great sisterhood. They are very easy going girls and don't tend to get into the comparison of who is better than who. But I will say each sorority tends to change pledge class to pledge class, so your daughter will have much to say about the makeup of her sisterhood through the next four years. All in all, IMHO, you will have spent your money well.

The rude comments in answer to Mom's question remind me of the hateful ladies on the greekchat website. The people on there 24/7 have their own ideas and if you say one thing they don't like they're immediately hateful. I don't know why they can't just ignore something not to their liking! And that goes for here as well. No one is forcing anyone to comment. If you don't like the question, move on to the next. There's enough hatred in the world without trying to make a mother feel bad because she has a question or a bias that you don't like.

What was the big deal? She had a valid question. Glad that after all the BS hateful responses......she got an answer from somebody decent and polite.

She did say sororities are about paying for friends and lacking self-confidence, that's pretty confrontational at best, and very rude. The whole paying for friends thing also shows a strange lack of understanding of economics because obviously things like houses, social events, philanthropy and meal plans cost money, and when all that is taken out your paying like $20 for friends.

Haha! I love the only paying $20 for friends comment! Priceless. I will have to borrow that one for myself.

She's an adult woman coming to a college gossip web site to find out dirt on her daughter's new sorority. I pity the DZ pledges who now have to deal with this. That's what's wrong.

I can kind of understand a mom asking about grades and partying, but then she asked about looks and money. Seriously? Why would you care about that if your daughter is happy?

You can also have a sense of humor with it, and you can tell your sisters/brothers your paying a bunch of money for them to be your friends if they can't hang out haha.

This was NOT started by a mom. It was probably started by a girl who wanted a platform to bash a sorority that prob has one girl in it she doesn't like. No mother would come on a site like this to ask questions like this. Asking about how much money the girls in the sorority come from ? Come on now. What mature adult would ask questions like that?

I have no idea about this stuff. We aren't from Alabama and she is my first child. I am just curious as to the reputation of where she got a bid from? I want to know about looks and money simply to know what to expect from my daughter. How much money am I going to have to fork out to keep up with everyone? Are they materialistic and focus on looks and dress? Are they girls with money that focus on name brands? Just trying to prepare myself. Sorry if I offended anyone. I don't realize this was a gossip website. I thought it was somewhere to get answers and help.

Why don't you do something radical and ask your own daughter? It sounds to me like you're looking for any reason possible to hate on your daughter's decision to join.

To the people replying above: Why do you care? If you don't like her question, move on and answer something you like. Obviously she wants to ask here. If you don't want to answer -- don't. But don't tell her what you think she should do. She probably doesn't care! And as for me -- I'm annoyed because the replies you wrote are just trying to make someone feel bad for asking a question.

It was a really gossipy question and not appropriate. What if people said horrible untrue things? She would believe them? It's not like DZ is the best or anything. It's her daughter's sorority now so she should act like she's proud of it even if it is only for her daughter's sake. She's using every sorority stereotype there is. She needs to be talking to her daughter not posting on the internet and respect her daughter's privacy and happiness. I can't even imagine coming here and thinking my mom might be posting!

DZ Mom, your daughter picked the right place. The DZs I know are not very superficial. So you wont have to drop a bundle on wardrobe. If you have a nice Lilly dress that would be top of the line for DZs. They are not like some "pampered" girls who fly to NY every spring for wardrobe updates. DZs do tend to be direct and straightforward which might be what is upsetting some of the others on this board. Also, as a southerner, it is considered rude to discuss money in public. But I know many girls from the NE where it is considered normal conversation. That said, the women who are upset over the money comment are probably coming at it from that angle. Hope this helps.

If you don't like the question, if you think it's gossipy and inappropriate, LOOK WHAT WEBSITE YOU'RE ON! You are on a gossipy inappropriate website. If you are offended, go to the PBS website or something. Otherwise, answer the question to the best of your ability. Stop being too "refined" to answer the question.

I would certainly consider many other members of other groups more arrogant and stuck up than DZ. I would never call them out by name, because in this context that would be classless. Also, I would be putting all members of other sororities together, when in fact there are also members of those groups who are well rounded, nice, down to earth girls. So again, based on the DZs I know well, they are nice and not very superficial, and could really not care about where they are ranked.

Ask your daughter, as suggested above.

by: @rewe

If you don't want to answer, don't. In the meantime, recognize that some people want different perspectives. I'm sure her daughter has told her some wonderful things and she wants the fully rounded truth. OK, this is probably not a great site to find out the truth, but that's not your call. You're just being rude.

DZ is a good sorority and considered to be middle of the pack, for whatever that's worth. They have a mix of girls just like all the sororities at Bama. They have pretty girls, some not so pretty, outgoing girls, some not as outgoing, some with a lot of money, some with not so much. Seriously, you can go on on with those. Do not come to this site to ask questions about ANY sorority if you want to get an accurate picture of them. The people that usually respond either have an agenda, a grudge against one particular girl, or they are trying to promote their own sorority. This site is a breeding ground for self promotion and down grading of other sororities. Your first clue that you aren't getting an accurate description of the sorority is when someone says they are all this or everyone thinks that. Some sororities really don't care to get into that, and I will say DZ seems to be one of those.
