Another perspective on Bama subjective tier rankings. First off it really is no longer the same as it was four or five years ago basically OOS rules Greek Life. Second if you are coming to Bama to rush and join the "exclusive" chapter of your older relatives, friends, or even your fave high school teacher you won't find it--do you really classify something with 400 members exclusive. Last, you will have the best time rushing new Bama because in my opinion there is now balance. It's not the best in the country for nothing.

If you knew the Bama ranks before you came on GR and since you were 5 years old they may have meaning.

If not, then agree with the idea of the OP -
Ranks dont matter and focus on finding your fit.

The ranks won’t change in a few years. They haven’t changed since like the 1930s.

Sorry OOR Becky.

The ranks don't change for older people like grandmas and moms. As for people who are in college now, there is a lot more parity and pnms are sometimes confused because the girls they're meeting in the houses aren't the girls that they expected based on what their families said. I know many girls who didn't pledge their legacy because they didn't feel like they fit there at all. Also, OOS girls coming here and wanting old row because they saw it was more prestigious on greek rank have been very disappointed. The OOS girls make fun of the kind of dull, out of shape, Southern belles in their houses, while at the same time those girls are sitting back thinking they got in the top house.

Funny while you are sitting back making fun of girls in an OR house that you know nothing about, they aren't thinking anything about you. They don't need to. Only new row girls who are mad about being cut from OR obsess about it. No one else cares.

Typically Alabama born get their preferred house or target house, just the way it goes.

But what you fail to mention is that these aren’t the target houses for the OOS girls - they dont care.

The rankings here are exactly the same as they were 5 years ago, 25 years ago and even 75 years ago. If you don’t like that, or are in denial that your New Row house is not in the top tier (and never will be), then don’t come to school here. The ranks seriously have not changed in 80 years. Old Row will always be top tier and that’s okay.

Your house can have the top girls from New Jersey or Ohio, but that will not make it a top tier house here. If you are not okay with that, then go to the University of New Jersey or Ohio State. But if you come to the University of Alabama, you have to accept what are the top sororities that have been top for 90 years and will still be top 90 years from now.

List the top houses again for the girls in the back:

Alphabetical order:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Gamma Delta
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Phi Mu

This is pretty much the truth.... those top houses can vacillate in that top tier based on personal preference, but those are the top houses at UA and most likely will always be top houses. Period.

And no one, and I mean NO ONE (for the girls in the back), in the real world after you graduate will give a $hit. Y’all sound like imbeciles. I beg you all to really consider why sororities were originally founded. It was so that women that pursued higher education would not be alone in their endeavor. And so they would have a literal sisterhood upon which to rely. Ladies, find a place that you feel at home and are welcomed. I did at Alabama and it was the best choice I’ve ever made.

If you're looking at greek rank then the rankings might still be the same because honestly a lot of the ratings are done by alums trying to support their chapters. So they're going to rank their own houses high cause they were high 20 or 40 or whatever years ago. The rankings on here don't represent the rankings that current pnms give the houses.

If you end the connotation of top tier and just say certain houses are more prestigious in the state of Alabama. They are not better, they are not worse, each has a personality that appeals to certain girls.

10 years after you graduated no one cares about the rank of a sorority house unless you are a member of a certain country club in certain parts of the state.

You think if you go on some job interview that the interviewer is going to know that your house was top tier or not?

Life is hard enough, don't add more stress with this made up ranks that are not based on any facts, but just perceptions of people needing to justify choices in life.

by: welll...

it will matter when i’m older though. I want my daughter to be a legacy to a good sorority. where I live there are only 3 good sorities to get into and they DO matter. They’re all full of different kinds of girls and whoever you’re with deems what kind of girl you are to other ppl

#7by: Reality vs perception

PMMs and Bama legacies hear and read about ranks from old alumna and insecure ststus seekers on GR and think sororitys are the same as 10-20-50 years ago. But, the reality is giant OOS numbers and giant chapters has greatly changed the sorority experience. Here is the truth now: it does not matter which house you join as every house has enough women to offer a "fit" for you. Every house has STEM majors. Every house has some very attractive members, every house has partiers, etc.
Every house has a full calendar of events, but again the truth, you will actually struggle to attend because there is also the expectation that you will make good grades.

But as long as there is a Mountain Brook people will continue to argue the validity of ranks. Aren't those the same clan who told PNM "no contact = no chance," some years ago?

Most of the country doesn't know who or what Mountain Brook is. And truly they don't care. All regions of the country have enclaves where the wealthy live and many don't rely on the kind of "income" statistics that rank MB high nationally. In many places income isn't something that you go out and earn, it's money so old that it just keeps coming in regardless. That kind of place doesn't show up when you google high income areas of the country. Besides with Bama giving out scholarships like they do for merit, the numbers of outstanding oos girls far exceeds the number of outstanding Alabama girls.

If the OOS girls are so much more outstanding, that doesn't explain why houses with almost all OOS have the worst grades, and the houses with a lot of instate have the best grades.

Bama Greek ranks are like car brands....

Mercedes, BMW and Volvo will always be acceptable for Mom to drive no matter how bland, dull, dated or obsolete the details and features may be.

A Porsche, Cadillac or Infinity may offer a better experience and better features, but still it’s not appropriate for Mom to be seen in one. \n\n\n\n\n
