sororities that don't take sophomore transfers?

by: transfer

I made a mistake my freshman year and chose the wrong college. I'm really excited about coming to Alabama in the Fall and going through sorority recruitment. Are there any houses that really don't take sophomores and/or transfer students?

Honestly, yes there are ALOT of houses that won’t take sophomores because of $$$ since you were not there the first year they missed out on $7,000. Just try rush and see what happens or “trust the system” as they like to say. You’ll get into the house your meant to be in maybe. Or they will drop you

It has EVERYTHING to do with money. There’s a reason Greek life is so expensive and it’s because it’s a business. Why else do you think sophomores almost never have full cards? To the OP, rush and see what happens you’ll be limited and dropped by almost all old row houses but all of the houses are great

It varies house to house and sophomore to sophomore. If you have friends in a house that doesn't take a lot of sophomores, you'll have a better shot. If you don't know anyone then it's a lot harder for the selective houses. But, if you're friendly, present yourself well, come in with good transfer grades, get recs and keep an open mind about where you end up, you'll most likely end up with a bid somewhere.

This is correct. I would add this: there is a separate quota for upper classmen so you are not competing with freshmen for spots. Every house takes sophomores if they are the right fit.

You will be fine. I know several girls that rushed as Sophomores either because of activities, money, transfer. They all got bids. Even the top houses, including pmu and axo took multiple Sophs in PC18. It is increasingly a thing. Friends ior contacts n house is the key.

Clarification to the person above. there WAS a separate quota for Sophomores but not anymore.

The quota went away this past year that’s why sophomores had a bad year this past year because no one was required to take them...

In my house we had to BEG to get a sophomore we all loved because alums / rush chairs didn’t want any sophomores since the quota was gone..

Hang on now, that was only for last year because SK was coming on to help them have a decent pool of candidates for colonization. This year SK will be participating in formal rush for the first time as a chapter. So the quota was paused but not eliminated.

The way it was explained to me was that sophomore quota was completely eliminated. Both because of sigma kappa AND because they’re trying to decrease pledge class sizes, sophomores don’t pay as much dues, they almost always end up dropping after a year because all of the girls in their grade already know each other etc. Alabama’s an SEC school, rush in the fall of freshman year like everyone else lol. Why should a sophomore who (for a fact) statistically won’t be as involved take the spot away from a freshman who’s far from home, on their own for the first time looking to get involved

A sophomore shouldn't 'take the spot away from a freshman' that's what upperclassmen quota is all about.

R u dumb everyone is talking about how there is no quota anymore which is why a sophomore shouldn’t take the spot of a freshman Jesus it’s called reading comprehension
