There are a few sororities that I have no interest in joining. I mean zero interest.

Is it necessary to get rec letters for these soros? I mean I would just rather go independent than be a sister in a few houses. Well, should I go through the hypocrisy of getting recs at those houses or not?

I feel the same. But I’m getting recs for all houses anyway. And you should too.

If you haven't gone through recruitment, how do you know which houses you would rather go independent than join? If it's from gossip and greekrank, I feel sorry for you. Those are unreliable sources and you'll be making a huge mistake if you don't give EVERY house a chance. I thought I knew what I wanted and was even a legacy to a house. When I went through I realized that while I liked my legacy all right, there were other houses that suited me better. I ended up in a house I would have never thought about before recruitment. And btw the people you see on here writing about how miserable they are are usually in houses they picked because of rankings on sites like this. Girls that pick houses that suit them are ending up happy.

If you know for certain that you don't want to be in a certain house, then by all means don't get rec's for that sorority.

Cut and dry and let the chips fall where they may.

You are setting yourself up for disappointment. To be honest I think it's really rotten to decide you absolutely don't want a house before you even go through rush, I don't care what you've read on Greek rank or social media or girls you may know in the house. When you are an active you will see just how much thought and time and work gets put in to recruitment and to write a sorority off without giving them a chance to show you what they could offer.

I can't stop you from not wanting certain houses, but for the love of God, at the very least keep it to yourself during recruitment instead of putting your negative opinions into the minds of the other girls in your rho chi. Not fair to the houses that are working so hard, and REALLY not fair to girls who may have loved it at these houses that you want nothing to do with.

If you clearly think that you’re above some houses on campus, I would recommend not rushing since obviously you will not be a supportive asset to the Panhellenic community.

I feel the same as OP. I do not think I’m above any houses. But I just don’t think I’m hot enough for Zeta or Alpha Phi or even Phi Mu. Is that thinking that I’m above those houses?

Yes, in a way it is. You have only heard that they are hot and don't know that yourself. They, especially A Phi this year have plenty of very ordinary looking girls. Just look as good as you can and be sweet to everyone and see who likes you.

truthfully, there is no need to join a sorority that you'll be miserable in. its' expensive and deprives another young lady of that honor. don't get rec's if you know for certain is fine. being an independent is fine as well. i have lots of friends who dropped or were cut and they are doing very well.

Ha ha ha! Just last year I had a PMN tell me she only wanted certain houses and proceeded to tell me which houses they were. (Mine was not one of them).

She is now in my sorority. And loves it.
