new pledge class
by: ?I just joined a sorority here. Is it normal for me to feel as thought I do not fit in with my pledge class right at first? A lot of the girls have been unfriendly and not welcoming towards one another, even tho this is what my sorority is all about. Im upset and worried I picked the wrong house.

It’s totally normal! When I joined my chapter, I felt like other girls had these instant connections, and fit right in (like they were meant to be) while I didn’t have any of those connections or feelings. This resulted me in being MIA (to the very extent possible) during my New Member period. Things started turning around when I got my pledge family (who weren’t people I was expecting obviously b/c I didn’t know many people then but soon I felt so comfortable), and really when I ran for a position in the house, and got more involved, ultimately becoming chapter president. It sounds cliche but it’s really what you give it. Give yourself and your chapter some time. Keep an open mind, mingle (even if it’s hard sometimes), and put yourself out there. Maybe it’ll help once you get a pledge family (even if they might not be people you know initially). And if you still don’t like it, you have options. But really, just give yourself and the chapter some time; you’re there for a reason.

I just read about the part about chapter members being unfriendly! I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe everyone’s in a bit of a weird position trying to get to know people, and are overwhelmed. They might just come off that way or maybe you feel like they’re more friendly to others than you. Give it some time! I’m sure it’s just the buzz of recruitment week still lingering!
