first choice vs second
by: heyyallSo if my daughter has two houses, what would be the circumstances that she'd get her second house. I heard if she is higher on the second house's list, she will get her 2nd choice even if she is still on the 1st house's list. How does this work exactly?

Here is how it works: Your two houses rank each PNM, and you rank your two houses. The algorithm will start at the top of the houses' bid lists to match their first choices with PNM's who have also put them first. If your first choice house has you high enough on their bid list to match with you before they reach Quota, then you will get a bid from that house. But, if your first choice reaches Quota before you are matched with them, then the algorithm will try to match you with your second choice house. If you are high enough on their bid list to match before they reach Quota then you will get a bid from that house. If you are not high enough on their bid list to match with them either, then at that point you would get a bid as a Quota Addition and could be matched to either house. The algorithm tries to give Quota Additions to their number one house where at all possible but must also factor in total membership numbers of the houses, where you are on their bid lists, and other factors. If you only rank one of your two houses and don't match with them, you are out of the running to be a Quota Addition and you will go without a bid at all.

Great & correct answers above!!
The PNM’s rankings are taken into consideration first after Pref. So if both houses have them on their 1st bid list, she’ll get her first choice.
If the second house has her on their 1st list and the first choice house has her on their 2nd bid list, the computer will STILL match her with her 1st choice as long as they don’t fill to quota before her name comes up (ie, if the house has to go down to #155 to make quota and she is #150, she would get her first choice, but if she’s #256 she would likely match to the 2nd choice house).

Say quota is 125 but 250 come to your pref parties. Every girl is ranked 1-250. If a girl puts house A as her #1 and she is on the list for 1-125, she is in house A, her first choice. If another girl puts house B as her first choice and gets house B yet she was also ranked 1-125 at house A, house A will then look at girls 1-126 on their lists since that second girl is not in their house. If a girl puts house A as her number one choice but she is ranked 200, the computer will see where she is on house B. If house B has her ranked higher, she will go to house B ( yay, they loved her lots!). If she was ranked low ( I mean, come on. Out of 2200 PNM’s, you made it to their prefs. They still WANT you), she will go back to house A as a quota addition. Very very few members will know who was ranked higher ( like 6-7 girls) in the house. Additionally, if a girl receives a “snap bid” today, only a handful of girls will know in the house and a couple of girls on Panhellenic and her Rho-Chi that she was a snap and really, they are perfectly happy with that girl joining their house or she would not have received the call. If she chooses to keep that snap call quiet, no one will know or remember within a couple of weeks. Good luck, ladies!
