by: Question

Due to the loss of around 200 sisters, will alpha phis pledge class be larger than others? Honest question here.

Do sororities still do big cuts after sisterhood round?

No because quota is determined by panhellenic

So if I made it to sisterhood round I won't get cut again?

So it will just be a smaller house?

You can still get cut after sisterhood. If you make it to pref and maximize your options welcome to Greek life.

Two different questions posed: (1) APhi quota will be the same quota as that for all other houses. That said, APhi can add QAs and COBs to the new member class up to chapter total. (2) Any chapter can cut after sisterhood, and if a pnm makes an extreme fool of herself at pref, even then.

An alumn - not APhi bit wanting them to do well.....

Can someone comment on who they seem to be returning?

I think y'all are misinterpreting what quota means.

Quota is the REQUIRED number of a pledge class set by Panhellenic. Houses HAVE to make this number or else they get fined.

BUT a house can go over quota, without limitations, if they want to. Usually houses who see low retention issues go over quota to help balance out girls who drop throughout the year. This is very evident in houses who have a history of low retention and you can see this very clearly in the grade reports.

So to the OP - Alpha Phi will have a set quota by Panhellenic however I would put good money on it that Alpha Phi will go over quota and have a big pledge class... Obviously because they lost half their chapter and need to grow fast. That being said, it's very evident that you are very set on Alpha Phi or are hopeful that you will receive a bid. Cuts can happen ANYTIME throughout rush and even if you make it to Pref a house can still rank you lower to ensure you don't get a bid. Also, just be mindful of Alpha Phi's history. I know not ~all~ of their girls are represented by the bad ones but not all that glitters is gold. APhi has a history of excusing poor character for attractive girls.

didn’t they just kick out upwards of 200 of those girls though? it seems like they’re trying to shift their focus from the hot QR’s this year and i’m rooting for them.

I was with Act’s comments until she took a swipe at the end.

Prematurely upvoted. Sorry.

There is no need. You actually seemed coherent until you had to editorialize.

Thank you for your honest response. Someone started posting with same nickname the ridiculous comments about sisterhood etc. I really just wanted to know if their pledge class would be larger.

@Act

You don't have a clue. Houses don't have to pledge quota but it would be stupid not to, and there are limitations on quota additions (like not beyond chapter total).

Alpha Phi will definitely have a larger nm class than other chapters because of quota additions and their chapter total. They have a larger pledge class every year.

Some people think that chapters pledging the most girls did the best, but the only reason they are allowed to pledge more is because they lost more. The strongest chapters don't have the largest nm classes.

@wrong, the number of quota additions can absolutely put a chapter over total. You see this a lot with weaker recruiting chapters who may have a lot of girls only preffing their house. If a girl is a QA she’s a QA, no other factors go into that. You may be thinking of COB, which houses cannot participate in if they are over total. You’re spot on on the rest though.

Nationals came in and kicked out girls who had low grades, didn’t pay dues... Then those girls had friends who dropped because their friends did

Pretty sure the National Panhellenic Council requires all of the chapters on campus to be at chapter total when a new chapter (sk) colonizes. Soo Aphi will have to take quota and then however many quota additions to meet chapter total.

Interesting. Quota additions to quota. So a larger pledge class. Or thru snap bids?

Ok so say they have 300 girls attend pref parties. They will then rank all 300 girls in order of most wanted to least wanted. They will send that in to Panhellenic and they will fill the quota first. So if quota is 130 they'll go through the list and the first 130 girls on the list who match for aphi will be the core quota. But since they are so far below chapter total they will continue to go down the list and add girls who also match. If they are unable to meet chapter total with the girls on their list (because of them receiving bids to other houses) then they would extend snap bids to fill the pledge class.

Alabama has fixed quota so every house has to take the same base number and then they can have quota additions. There's really no difference between being part of the quota or a quota addition. Its basically just version of variable quota (which is in place at other schools- their panhellenic sets a different quota for each house based on their average membership total in comparison to chapter total. so houses with strong membership retention take smaller pledge classes and ones with higher drop rates take larger pledge classes). However Alabama's way of doing it ultimately results in more girls getting their first choice, VS. alot of variable quota schools go purely off of who's list you ranked higher on.
