by: Be nice

Hi what should I do if I don't have any friends in my house. Before anyone says drop it let me explain. I have a couple people I can talk too but no true friends. I have tried to talk to people but they just shut me down. I'm a cute girl and haven't done anything to anyone for them to not like me. I just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem and found friends later on. Pls no hate I love my house and want to stay but theirs no point to if I don't have any friends. So I'm just looking for advice.

What year are you? If this has been your first year, I strongly recommend you give it more time. As a big you might develop a tremendous relationship with your little! Or as a grand-big. I recommend you give it some time. AND, make sure you are involved. Becoming an officer is a great way to get involved!

I totally feel the same way as you, I feel like I have made no real friends in my sorority no matter how hard I’ve tried. Especially when everyone already seems to have cliques and best friends already. Idk what to do either I’m a rising sophomore I am going to/recommend to you to stick it out and see if you can meet new people, if people still aren’t receptive then maybe consider dropping. Know that there are people that feel the same way as you. I wish I could know who you are/if you are in my house lol but just stick it out a little longer girl :)

I would make sure you are participating in everything your sorority has to offer, eat as many meals at the house as you can, get involved, etc. and if you are a sophomore I would try to connect with the new pledge class because they won't have made their friend group quite yet and you can help them maneuver the start of freshman year! It'll be hard to put yourself out there but I would make sure you are doing all the activities your house has to offer to get to know people better and so people see you trying to get involved and participating!

There are 400 girls in your house....

You don’t provide many details, but will offer this.

1. Don’t try too hard to be in a certain group. If it isn’t clicking move on.

2. Observe. Look for girls who also seem to be alone or outside edges of a group. Talk to them. Give “everyone” a try. Get their number. Text them.

3. Get involved. Go to events.

4. Show up for meals - everyday.

5. Study in the house.

6. Sit with actives in your classes. Just say hello. \n\n\n\n\n

I wish there was a way that all these “friendless” girls could connect in real life somehow, I can’t help wondering if you’re in my house and I’m missing out on finding someone who needs a friend as much as me :)

Go talk to your president or your advisor. They can help. It worked for me.

Generally the girls with no friends are the ones who concentrated all their efforts on getting a "top ranked" house. Maybe their next door neighbor or cousin pulled them in. But if they don't belong there for some reason (money, connections, home town, lifelong friends, camps, legacies from Bama, etc.) they find themselves on the outside.

Think about it before you decide where you want to be. A lot of girls find new row houses more inviting and easier to make friends.
