i can’t stop obsessing over being in a top house?
by: ughI know it’s really stupid but I legit can’t stop obsessing over being in the ones I’ve seen on Instagram. I know I could have fun in a mid tier house too and it’s not all about ranks but I’m just so in love with the top houses that I feel like I’d be so broken if they cut me. How can I get over this cause i know I’ll get hurt during rush with these expectations

Because girls from in state already know a TON about the sororities and know girls in almost all of them. You don’t really know what you want if you’re from out of state because you haven’t seen or interacted with these girls except through Instagram. You could get here and fall in love with a middle of the road or bottom house and hate what you thought would be your #1
Don’t stress about ranks, they seem like a big deal especially as a freshmen but I promise you THEY DONT MATTER. I’m in a house generally seen as top 3 from oos and haven’t had the greatest experience. Anyone who actually thinks being OR or NR is a big deal is a straight up loser and needs to re-examine their values

Do "top Greeks" really feel entitled enough in real life to make fun of those in houses they consider beneath them? I know trolls are gonna troll on GR, but do people do this to your face? Like, walk away from you or tell you that you suck?

I’m in an OR sorority and have friends that are in all different houses. One of my friends in a lower ranked house had a boy flat out walk away from her when she told him her house. When I tell boys my house their ears usually perk up. It’s stupid and ridiculous but it’s iust how it is. Most people aren’t like that but there are a few jerks who are

recognize that for the majority of the time, those OR houses pick girls with connections. of course you can still feel free to hold onto those hopes because there is always a chance you could be surprised, but don’t write off other houses. there really aren’t many differences between them all, you can find your people in any house.

In a sense yes. A lot of girls in the top houses have gone to high school with other girls that are currently members of those sororities. This doesn't mean that if you're out of state or don't have those pre-college connections that you'll instantly get rejected by some of the top houses. But there are definitely some that take more in-state girls than out of state. So be wary of that. All in all I would say just try to go in with an open mind. Don't let any talk from other girls in your group sway you and don't think you need to be in a top house to have fun. That's the main takeaway from all of this.

Just realize it’s not all that. You see instagram, you don’t see real life. Those middle tier and even lower tier girls are still beautiful, do the exact same activities, and have a wonderful sisterhood. Don’t aim for top just because it’s top. You should aim to get into a house where you love the sisterhood and the bonds you share. You can’t see these things through an instagram picture. Maybe stay off of social media until after recruitment if you think you’ll be swayed.

PMNs, you must understand that all houses are fantastic at Bama! If houses have 400ish membership, then the bottom half of the row has over 3200 women members. Your best friend for life could be in that group! Do not discount any house! All have super-cute instagram worthey members. Every house at Bama offers a killer sorority experience you simply can not get anywhere else. You need to try to be open to every house or you will talk yourself into being dissapointed with middle or bottom houses that are fantastic.

Instagram is NOT real life! I am oos too and was just like you, and I PROMISE you that some of the houses I followed on ig that I thought looked so fun and glamorous and that I would kill to be a part of were a disappointment during rush. Not because they're bad houses, because I truly believe all the houses here are strong or they wouldn't be here, but because the girls were not the right vibe for me and the conversations felt forced and I felt like I was trying to be someone I'm not. You can't know the personality of the house through Instagram, you just can't.

If you are looking at social media, its seems odd you find old row more appealing. Frankly, some of the OR social media is very weak.
Not saying that's the ultimate measure, but you are getting yourself worked up over nothing.
The OR thing is just branding. Not necessarily better, but depending where you are from, back home there may be better recognition of certain houses.
So if that is your guide, go Theta. Plenty of places they have a great rep.
There is really not much difference in the experience between houses
I'm sure this won't help you feel better, so whatever, but good luck.
