sk

by: ?

Just curious but does anyone here not want a new sorority to join campus? I'm not trying to be negative but on a different thread about SK most of the comments are welcoming towards SK but whenever I talk about SK to people in real life they all seem to not really want a new sorority to join. The perception is definitely split and this division is interesting

if sk was colonizing the year i rushed i personally wouldn't have been interested. i would've rather been in a lower ranked house than be in sk because at least those houses have history.

What does history have to do with you belonging to a sorority today? What a sorority did 30 years ago has no bearing on what it is like today.
In fact each year a sorority is not the same sorority of the year before because new members come in and old leave.

History is a code word for wanting the benefits of other people's efforts without putting in any work themselves.

I think she may be referring to things like not being able to have a big, for example. Also I can imagine there is a lot of pressure for creating a good rep on campus in those first few years which takes a ton of effort, more so than people probably realize

It’s interesting, when I rushed I was cut to one house I hated and at the time I actually wished there was a house colonizing that I could have gone for. IMO that’s why colonizations are successful, there are always enough unhappy girls willing to give it a shot and be happy that they had an alternative.

I'm not talking about actual history. I'm talking about how SK isn't established while the other houses are. That's would've been the biggest deterrence for me... Like as the person above said, you'll have no big/family. You'll have little to no swaps. You'll notice a lack of basic structure for everything, whether it's Exec or gamed events. If it came down to it I would've chosen any established house over colonizing.

Everyone I know is either excited or just doesn’t care that much. I don’t know anyone who’s upset about it and I don’t know why anyone would be. It’s just a new sorority

Unless you’re a bottom ranked house who’s worried that PNMs would rather build SK than join you, you should either be happy they’re coming or not even care.

Sigma kappa cane to recruitment last year and talked to the recruitment team (j board/tho chi) and stayed to observe the whole recruitment. Their advisors were so nice, friendly, and committed to making their colonization seamless. They talked to us about what aspects of sororities at Alabama were most important, and seemed to really try to get a good understanding of campus culture.

I’m very excited for them and to see what they will bring!
I understand people not wanting any more sororities, but I think the bigger concern is a sorority that fails to successfully integrate into campus and the Panhellenic community.

They should make a real push to be a very diverse house. Like have a lot of woc.

I’m happy they’re coming. I’m in a new row bottom tier house and it’s just one more house that’ll boost our reputation. Selfish but true.

You say that now but when dg and alpha phi came to campus they both jumped right over gphi and even theta... back then some pretty good PNMs dropped out for the colonizations to avoid being in certain houses and it definitely could happen again

DG and Alpha Phi have better national reputations than SK though, so girls won’t be as familiar with the name

Panhellenic & SK reps flooding the comments. Don’t try to say anything negative because they obvi go here with no agenda to play out and know what’s what. Lol

I commented on this and I’m a senior in a new row house. Can a comment only be genuine if it’s negative? I’m kinda confused by that logic.

I commented on this, and I'm a Sophomore. Sorry it didn't fit your angry agenda.
