sorority

What do you love about your sorority? If you could do it all over again, would you have ranked your houses differently based on what you now know?

i love my sorority because the girls are genuine and not backstabbing and if you want to branch out to other people its super easy to do. i liked them all through rush and knew id be there for pref. its just sometimes itd be nice to be "higher up" on the ranks because i dont think we get enough recognition

Funny I read the first sentence and immediately knew it wasn’t an OR house because the southern girls are too cliquey for it to be easy to switch groups

Honestly besides the obvious main ones (met my best friends, got connected to on campus organizations I have love being involved in), a huge one for me is just knowing so many more people on campus than if I was a GDI and having girls who are basically strangers help me out because we are in the same house.
I’ve had girls I barely knew who offered to drive me to the airport at 4am, let me borrow clothes or shoes when I needed things last minute for a date party or interview, pick up packages for me when I was out of town and worried they’d get stolen, etc
A lot of it is really little stuff but I’ve actually been so touched by how many times a girl in my house who I’ve spoken to once or twice has happily gone out of her way to help me out in random situations

Sorry to get cheesy, but in my time at Alabama I have grown so much as a person and so much of that is because of my sorority. I came into school pretty shy and insecure, and my house has helped me come out of my shell and embrace being loud, fun, and so much happier with who I am as a person.
I thought (not being from the south and being very intimidated by how perfect I thought sorority girls here were) that I’d have to fit into a perfect Barbie doll mold to be accepted by a house here and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to rush. I know for a fact I would have transferred if I hadn’t joined a sorority and instead of having to change myself, I got to be myself but grow into a much better version of myself

I really love how my house wasn’t too caught up in being overly competitive. I knew I wanted to rush and be in a sorority, experience sisterhood, and be involved, but all the sorority competitions (homecoming week, Greek week, derby days, etc) seemed a little trivial to me. I liked that my house takes those things with a grain of salt— yes we still compete, but to us it’s more about having fun with your sisters.

I’m sure others love their house for the exact opposite reason as me, which is why no house is best for everyone!
