what’s one thing you wish you knew before you went through rush?

Don’t tell your roommate which houses you like or don’t like especially if she is in state. Even if y’all are best friends emotions are very high and the little green monster comes out. Maybe she got cut from your favorite house and is upset or y’all both love the same house and she’s going to make sure she has a spot over you so she accidentally texts her in house friends something that gets you cut to make sure she’s higher on the list. If you need to talk to someone call someone at home/ has nothing to do with rush here.

I also read too much GR before I came and thought PM and AXO were THE top. Don't get me wrong -- they are great houses, but when I actually arrived on campus I realized that there were many other houses that were thought of at least as highly, and some higher.

(Especially when you’re from far OOS and don’t know people in the houses) you don’t really get to know the houses during rush. You see what they want you to see. Some houses put on a great rush but they’d be a poor fit for you, some houses don’t put on a good rush but are not bad houses.
Follow your gut when you’re making choices, but if you are disappointed on bid day know that you’ve met MAX like 12-15 girls in a house of 400. You don’t know the house yet and since you got a bid from them you might as well give yourself a chance to actually get to know them.

I wish I had realized that getting cut from a house is almost ALWAYS nothing personal. The actives know their house and know who would and wouldn't be a good fit. My house cuts lots of AMAZING girls just because we can tell that they would just fit in better elsewhere. Getting cut says nothing about you as a person!

looking put together is important, but I worried waaaaaaaaaay too much over summer about what I was going to wear, bought a whole bunch of new stuff and didn't look any different from my roommate who wore dresses she had from graduation and church stuff and only bought a new dress for pref.

Also, the actives are just as nervous as you on the first day, especially if they are sophomores, so if you are prepared and the conversation goes easily you'll be more memorable. think of some stories about yourself and your interests/activities/summer break ahead of time, and even just think about things you love talking about- I love Bravo shows and had some great convos about them.

YES YES YES THIS. I’m a rising sophomore and I’m already nervous about picking girls up and talking to them!!! Also, the actives see so many girls a day they’re not focused on what you’re wearing unless it is just stand out tacky!!

I'm also a sophomore and I so anxious about talking to so many PNMs and having to remember them, and I'm worried I'll have to carry every conversation!
