unpopular opinion on wealth deception

How many rich girls do you know that have merit scholarships? There is a criteria for that whether you're aware or not go back and read the stipulation on the scholarship you have and get back with us.

I have a full ride to bama from CA. My family has more than enough money to pay full tuition at in state schools but why would they when I go to bama literally for free, we don't even have to pay room and board. My younger sister is about to start college and I have two more younger siblings. It makes zero sense to turn down almost $150,000 dollars from a school like Alabama to what, prove a point that rich people don't accept handouts?

There is NO wealth (or lack of wealth) stipulations for Merit Scholarships. They are automatically given. Thanks for proving you're not a student here.

I know plenty of girls who are from wealthy families and had excellent grades/test scores in High School. Every single one of them have merit scholarships, as well as other scholarships from outside sources. This may come as a shock to you, but wealthy people can also be smart. Honors College has a good number of wealthy girls and guys.

One girl in my pledge class gets about half her tuition paid for, thanks to her Merit Scholarship. Her parents donate that half every year to a charity that she’s been Involved in for a very long time.

Not all scholarships are need-based. This is something you’d be aware of if you knew anything about how the school actually works. Maybe study the school as much as you do our sorority social media.

Of course they did. That is why they are wealthy. They are smart enough to realize that they "earned" the scholarship through hard work and merit. That would be like a successful CEO turning down an annual performance bonus because he was "rich enough".

That’s literally a myth middle class people tell themselves to make themselves feel included. Rich people go flashy and do things normal people. Look at the student of SMU or TCU or USC.

I agree. A number of rich people like to fly under the radar. Look at Warren Buffett, who has never been flashy, and lives in the same modest home he's lived in his entire life. I know of one rich man who drove a Ford for many years. And I had no idea that a college friend of mine came from wealth until I visited her family home, and saw her family's extensive land holdings.

In New England in particular, rich people flying under the radar is a thing. And it's a truism in Colorado that you should never judge anyone by their external appearance.

MERIT - "the quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward."

Merit Scholarships are automatically awarded to ANYONE of any income bracket, who has at or above a specific GPA and SAT/ACT score. There is no application to fill out, and no additional steps to take. You have the grades and the test scores and you get accepted into the school, YOU GET THE SCHOLARSHIP. It's not that hard. Even your little troll mind should be able to figure it out. OOS Merit scholarships offer more money, but because in state is less expensive, they cover the EXACT same things.

If you are Bill Gates kid, and you are a NMF or you have a 4.0 and a 1600 on your SAT, guess what? You get a full ride. They do not consider wealth or location.

Can you turn it down? Probably, but no sane person, rich or not, would.

Now you're really not grasping the concept of exponentially wealthy, Bill Gates children + Bama LOL. Leave this topic alone and just accept the fact real wealth doesn't lean towards Bama it's not even a first tier public college and you know it.

Right -- in almost all cases, your undergrad doesn't matter. If you do well, you can get into a top-tier grad school.

The only exception that I know of is if you want to work on Wall Street. Then an Ivy League degree (either undergrad or grad) is desirable for certain careers in certain firms. But you can still have a great career there without one.
