do houses have to vote on every pnm for each round?
by: HiOr just for the later rounds like pref? It seems like it would take forever to discuss and vote for every single PNM from the first round.

The simple answer to your question is yes, every PNM is voted on every round.
In the early rounds, it’s the girls you have conversations with, and girls who otherwise observe you, that will decide if they think you are a fit for the house or not. This is particularly true for girls who are unknowns. And just to be clear, a rec letter does not make you a “known”. You either have to know people in the house, or have been notice through social media or personal recommendation.
Finally, even if your conversations go great and the girl s you spoke to give the approval, you may still get passed over if the house can meet its numbers for the round from girls they know or otherwise prefer because of grades, looks, or any number of other reasons

I think vote is used "loosely" - particularly in the early rounds. Every girls is selected or declined that's true.
This is done through some combination of feedback and vetoes by the rush leaders in the house.
There will be girls who are "automatics" to the next round - if they are known, desired, legacy in some circumstances, etc.
If the feedback on other girls from convos selects too many for the next round, the rush committee makes decisions.
It can be random at times - loved her, but her nail color; but she kept saying "awesome" and it bugged me, or and she is also from the town of a kid I have a crush on, loved her shoes, etc.
It can also, depend if the active wants or can make a strong case for a particular girl. \n\n\n\n\n

At my house the rush chairs have already created a "cut" pile for IWT and Philantropy. We don't vote on you individually for IWT - that whole cut pile is out. For Philanthopy, we only vote on the group of girls that we're on the fence about. If you're a definite yes, you get invited back. If you're a definite no, you get cut. the girls on the fence are put up for a vote and we take about half of them to invite back for Sisterhood.

In my house we vote on the PNMs we talk to every round (and IWT you also vote on girls you know even if you didn’t talk to them). For IWT legacies get pulled up the list because we give them a courtesy invite to philanthropy and girls below our grade cutoff get pushed to the bottom. Our membership selection group then uses our scores, recs, and grades to put the girls on a keep list of a cut list. We see the lists and can either try to get girls pulled to the keep list or moved to the cut list if we disagree with where they were put. Same process for philanthropy and sisterhood without the courtesy invite for legacies and we will already be rid of the grade risks

Don't give so much credit to "the computer;" it is only a tool. Rest assured that every PNM is considered individually and preliminary reviews are happening right now. The house decides on invitations back for every PNM for every round. Each house has its own method and criteria for doing so. Yes, it takes forever. We stay up late every night of recruitment for this because it is the most important thing we do.
