getting a sorority you didn’t expect
by: pnmWhat should you do if you get a sorority that you didn’t expect or maybe didn’t want? In all the bid day videos, every single girl looks so excited but I find it hard to believe that every single one got the sorority they were expecting. Should you still pretend to be excited? I wouldn’t want to ruin it for other girls

Have a good attitude going in. Tell yourself that you’ve got until initiation to decide if you want to drop but until then you are going to give it a genuine shot.
It’s ok if you’re upset on bid day (but I’d recommend trying to hide it), my little showed up sobbing on bid day because my house was her second choice after Phi Mu (I’m in a lower-mid NR house). She was upset but still gave my house a shot and ending up being so happy that it’s where she ended up.
If you go in with a bad attitude and don’t get involved or go to swaps or spend time at your house, you won’t make any friends and you’ll hate it. But that will be your fault not the house’s

Try your hardest to be excited! Just because you don’t love it at first doesn’t mean you won’t eventually grow to love it. Try to get involved with everything you can and make an effort to meet your pledge sisters. And if you still end up not liking your house, you can always drop before initiation and try again the next year.

Coming from someone who didn’t get her first choice house: it’s okay to be upset. It’s okay to spend at least part of bid day and even new member retreat thinking you’re in the wrong house, considering dropping, calling your mom upset, etc. But don’t make any decisions until you give it a try. My opinion of my house during rush came more from other people than myself. After I spent time with my sisters, went to events, and got my big, I knew I was actually in the right place.
