big / little
by: sadI’m an active and was looking for some feedback from other actives. Do you guys feel like you are actually close with your big? Maybe it’s just me but in my sorority I feel like you are either super close or you hardly even talk

big/ little relationships aren't really emphasized in my house so I'm not that close to my big, but when I take a little this year I want to be so close with her to get that experience!!!

Definitely! My group of friends and I put in a big effort starting with our bid day buddies. We invited them to things a lot, outside of our sorority big/little-finding events, sat with them at lunch, etc. By the time it came to pick a little I had grown so close with mine, it was no question who I wanted. My friends love her too, so we’ll invite her out with us (sometimes with some of her friends), we’ll go grab dinner, we have quite the snap streak, etc. I also wrote her a note for her reveal basically just saying I’m so lucky to have met you, if you need anything I'm always here, and I would check in to see how she’s doing with her first year. If you find a new member you like, put in that extra effort to stay connected. I had it easy because we’re from close by areas back home as well, but I have friends that are close with their little where that’s not the case.

My sorority family (five of us) is like my literal family. I don’t think I would enjoy being in a sorority nearly as much if it weren’t for them. My house waits until almost initiation for big little so I think that helps. There are some houses that do big little two weeks after bid day and I can’t imagine that. I think it would be so hard to pick the right person after only two weeks

My big and I really don’t get along. We look like a good fit on paper but once I got to know her I wanted to spend as little time around her as physical possible.
Unfortunately I haven’t been paired with a little two semesters in a row and I’m going abroad my junior year, so now I’m scared I might never get a little and be able to have that happy family relationship I wanted.
I still love my sorority, I just wish I hadn’t had such high expectations for the big/little experience coming in.

Just bad luck - my sophomore fall we had a smaller PC and my sophomore spring I was going to be paired with a girl, but she heard back about a transfer application and dropped before big/little kicked off.
The pile of things in my closet meant for the little who doesn't exist yet is pretty depressing, ngl.

my big and i are nothing alike. she has not made any effort unless she wanted help with her homework. literally passed me walking to class one day and didn’t even say anything or smile. just makes me want to be a great big and make sure no other girl has an experience like this

For my house and most others the new members rank their top however many and bottom however many and actives do the same for littles. No one sees this except for the person who’s position it is in the house (for us it’s membership development). Ranking the bottom felt mean for a lot of people but only one person sees it and is sworn to secrecy lol and every person has to do it so it’s not at all meant in a mean spirited way just gives our membership development person more insight so they don’t give you someone you already know you don’t click with! You also get paired with a new girl every week so you can meet the different bigs.

For bid day, if there’s a girl in the house that really wanted you or liked talking to you, she’ll probably grab your sign and all that. If not, it’s usually just whoever volunteers, or maybe someone who talked to you’s friend

Same!!! My big is really nice and we’re friendly, but not crazy close. My little and I? We’re legitimately best friends she’s my pride and joy.
