is it better to be nr than leftover or
by: CuriousI’ve seen a good few posts that describe two OR houses as the leftovers that couldn’t get any other OR houses, and I’m wondering if it would be better to just got a good NR house instead?

There's no such thing as OR leftovers. Those claims come from NR girls who feel that their middle tier new row house should be ranked higher than the OR houses who aren't considered top of the top. There is a term similar called a filler girl but I genuinely wouldn't take being a filler girl as an insult. Most filler girls in OR houses are better quality pnms than those of most new row houses

Oh my God. It's actually crazy that some people genuinely think that a label on their house makes them better than others.
OLD ROW IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE.
I'm sorry, go ahead and dislike my comment. But it's true. Old Row status holds literally no value anymore and if it did then how come houses like KD and AGD are struggling? And how come houses like Kappa, KD, AGD, and XO all have to fill half their pledge classes up with filler girls EVERY single year? Old Row and New Row labels are just a way to group houses together.
There are fallacies in literally every single argument you can make to defend OR houses.

I am one to give OR it’s rank at Bama
Dont dispute it.
But it IS about Alabama and certain regional connections. People who are “known” here. OR spends the most rime and is well regarded as a result.
A student who is just as smart, friendly, social, attractive and wealthy - from CA, NY, IL, OH, etc - isn’t perceived as well because they have no connections here.
So, if You are coming from Alabama or certainly. Other regional areas with a big draw here - these connections and acceptance are important. OR (and ZTA would be ok) are a big deal.
And this is still matters to about half the students here.
Honestly, if this is not you, it’s not big deal. I wouldn’t say to avoid it, but at the same time, I would t worry about it.

Nothing is going to change the education you get at Bama because of the house you get in.
It’s unlikely to change who your grades/study habits or the grades you get. Houses that rank low in terms of grades still have many girls on Deans and Presidents lists.
The house you get into changes who you will socialize with.
OR - will be focused on socialization with kids primarily from Alabama and the region - MS, LA, GA certain pets of TX. To some students here this is critically important. If that’s you - make your house selections around such - whether you really like the house or not.
If not, then I’d suggest you solely focus on the houses where you “feel most connected” during recruitment. \n\n\n\n\n

The amount of downvotes on some of these comments, and the comments bashing OR just show that there are more NR girls on this site than OR. The NR girls dominate this site and you can see that by how everyone fails to recognize that the OR houses are the top houses whether you want to admit it or not. PNMs when you go through rush you will 100% realize this. All the people bashin OR once went through recruitment and wanted to be in the OR houses and we're heartbroken and bitter when they got cut. It doesn't mean they don't thoroughly love their NR house, they're just bitter they were dropped

The filler girls thing is a scare tactic. I had one NR house on pref tell me I was going to be a filler girl. I am in an OR house and I don’t feel like a filler even though I had no connections before rush. Actually a majority of my friends are from Alabama
