I think being vegan is really a question of your values. Vegans value an animal’s right not to feel pain over their right to eat it. Generally, non-vegans have the opposite value system.
At the end of the day, being vegan is the most selfless way to live since you’re considering how OTHER creatures are impacted by your dietary choices rather than just the impacts to yourself. If you’re non-vegan, that’s fine, but you have to accept that you are being selfish in your choice of food. Obviously there are FAR worse things and eating meat doesn’t make you a bad person, per say, especially since it’s integral to so many cultures around the world and often inconvenient. Again, it just depends on where your values lie
