how has axo stayed top in grades?

by: pnm

I’m just curious what variables lead to AXO to stay top in grades? Do they have more study hours? Is there more pressure to succeed? Or are they just super selective and only give bids to really smart girls?

Of course all houses have smart girls and study hours, I’m just curious as to what led to one house staying top in grades for so long.

Nerds. They’re giant nerds and that’s how.

I am friends with a lot of alpha chis and I can honestly say that all of them are very self-driven. Many of them have a “type A” personality and are competitive about most things, meaning that they want top grades for themselves and as a sorority. I think they told me once that they had 20 study goes a week (my sorority had 15 I wanna say.. I’m a senior now so I don’t remember perfectly).

On top of this, their academic programming done by their exec is a lot more in tense and put together than other houses. I should mention that there are hard working, driven, type A girls in every sorority, but every alpha chi I know has these traits

Alpha Chi forces their girls to complete 20 study hours EVERY week.

Selection of girls is also a part of it. Since they have the reputation of being top in grades, smart pnms are drawn to the house who maintain their rank in grades, so the cycle continues

Doesn't seem to add up. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the GPAs of pledge classes when they were brought in vs. their house GPA after pledging. I am willing to bet that AXOs pledges do not bring the highest GPA or ACT scores in when compared to all the other houses so what magic is happening to get the highest out?

This is a good question that has been buried. Nonsense posts everytime this comes up. I am not OP but it would be very interesting to see if AXO really does start with smarter girls. I wouldn't think so but being top gpa so long doesn't make sense

Now I'm curious too. All other houses go through the same recruitment process yet not one has topped AXO in 28 years. It is always by such a amall margin too. I never thought much about it but now it does seem unbelievable.

This is just my experience and a few friends.

If you come it with solid grades and test scores, but note you are engineering or pre med. you get dropped.

I am NOT saying they have no such majors, but they seem judicious about who they allow with those majors - better be known and have very top grades and scores. They do not seem to be “big “ on the smart girls who maybseem a bit “over reaching” in their career aspirations, and may struggle in the majors known for heavy cuts and tough grading.

Girls with the same,or lower, grades and test scores (bit still solid) and with marketing, education, history majors don’t get dropped as quickly.

I’d argue a “C” in OChem 2 is harder than an “A” in many other classes.

I know I worked WAY harder for that “C” than for my “A pluses” in my electives

Grade reports do not reflect this. This is not aimed at AXO specifically, but work and intelligence are not perfectly correlated to grades and do depend on other variables (and things grade reports do not reflect).

My suspicion is it’s one of the reasons the guys (frat GPAs) are lower - like it or not the tough majors tend to have higher percentage of male students. \n\n\n\n\n
