With the new higher GPA requirements I think SK will do just fine. I’d rather be a SK than in about 6 different already existing sororities here.

If sigma kappa had been colonizing when I rushed I would have given it a shot. I had really deep cuts and would rather have been a founding member of a sorority than be in mine to be honest

honestly i think it's going to be hard for sigma kappa to find footing. most girls i've talked to about sigma kappa have said that they'd prefer to be in an established sorority than be a founding member of sk. and frankly i agree.

I'm a legacy. Going through Recruitment, but honestly think I will go for them instead, unless something absolutely shocking happens and I fall in love somewhere else.

This is how I look at it. Girls from far oos are coming here and are going through recruitment because they want a party atmosphere. You can preach all you want about grades, involvement, reputation, etc but at the end of the day, that only matters to a handful of instate girls and a pretty girl from the northeast would rather go to a low tier party house (alpha phi, dz, gphi, etc) than be a founding member of a sorority that has no leg to stand on at bama. Sigma Kappa will not be able to provide those girls with that experience they're looking for, and the girls know that. Therefore, SK will get all the odd, awkward, untalkative girls that got dropped from rush because of their social skills. Girls who are pretty and social who got dropped because of GPA will pass on SK because it's not the experience they are looking for and will end up cobing one of the houses I mentioned above

Both APhi and DG created enough buzz when they recolonized that there were lots of PNMs who skipped formal to try out for their colonies. Both were able to be highly selective during colony recruitment and turned away many PNMs.

One thing that sounds like a bad sign for SK is that they aren't requiring a rec whereas APhi and DG both did. That makes me think they're not going to be very selective.

Another thing is that SK was on campus less than 20 years in all both times they were active before. That means they have a tiny alumnae base compared with APhi and DG. I don't think they have any living alums at all from the first time they were here. Plus, the second time they were active in the late '80s to mid-'90s, the chapter fell apart due to internal drama and ended up voting to close. So basically it's going to be like a sorority without any history here trying to colonize for the first time.

Panhellenic dropped the upperclassmen quota to help SK. they will get upperclassmen who cant compete against the freshman who will pay bills for 4 years. Shady!
