What's your honest opinion on Phi Mu?

I personally don’t have a problem with them. Yea there was a really rude phi mu that lived next door to me in tut freshman year but I also have a super good friend that’s a phi mu. They’re like any other sorority. They just have a reputation that they’ve been able to continue to uphold (ie good grades, good looking) and I think a lot of people hold that against them. My only problem with them is that I think they try too hard sometimes to keep up their image and it kinda bothered me that like a lot of houses had their big end of the year date party that we’re fun themed and crazy and all that and Phi mu had one but they all had to dress nice so they could get cute pics and all that... but if that’s their thing so be it! Overall I literally have no problem with them

i think a lot of people (not all) are jealous of them. They dropped me after sisterhood and I still think about what it would be like to be a phi mu. I think they put on a great front but they have some issues deep down, like a split sisterhood. I bet there is a lot of drama in that house. I definitely think their white house is a big reason why they have the stereotype of being rich and snobby.

There are a thousand ranks here where they are 1 or 2

And a poll where they are the most disliked.

Both are true!!

I adjusted for the "crazy lady" votes.

Every pmu I know is very happy there. Don’t get where the split sisterhood thing comes from.

See about half the ones I know are. (One of my freshman roommates was a PM so I met a handful). They seem (AND THESE ARE JUST MY INFERENCES) to have a lot of issues with their honor board. I know a few that constantly get reported over almost nothing by their own bigs or other girls based off boy problems. There seem to have location cliques too (from what I’ve heard, the Midwest girls I know feel very unwanted by some of the in states). The extra pretty girls band together and the ones who were more just “put together” are on the outs. They were given a list of frats that are color coded as well so you know where they want their girls to show up? I get it OR houses generally hang with each other but that’s insane. It’s just tons of stress a lot and I could see how constantly needing to be perfect could make relationships within a house weak. The other two I know are such Phi Mus (not a bad thing) but they seem very happy so? Idk. They’re a great house, well rounded, classy, and they have beautiful girls, but the ones I know seem like they’re constantly judged on their appearances besides just a “classiness” factor. One said she doesn’t feel comfortable eating very much food there. If you really are the type of girl that’s “on” all the time you will genuinely love it. If you like looking pretty and put together but want to come to the house, binge on Fried Friday and not have any makeup on, it may not be your place.

Nailed it! It’s not a house where you can just “be yourself.” You can’t show up at the house or wear your letters without a FULL face of makeup and a cute outfit.

Most girls at Bama like to look cute to go out, but sometimes you just want to roll out of bed and grab lunch at your house. You can’t do that at Phi Mu.

My roomie in tut last year was a pmu. I am a different OR house. We are both from in state. The stories about makeup and being “on” all the time is not right. I think there may be girls there that are not as confident as others? Girls roll in and out of that house without makeup all day long. Girls that go in full face or whatever must just always a do a lot of makeup. I do agree that the pmu older girls put pressure on the first years to favor old row frats. They had a no crop top rule for a while and the first years kinda revolted Bc their standards chair got carried away. They do certainly think a lot of their house. They don’t have enough in state girls to really form an in-state/OOS split.

Just read more responses. Let me say this on models and beauty. Yes, many of their girls are considered very very good looking. My roomie, not so much— but she definitely knows how to make the most of what she has. Like even when slumming she does something cute with her hair or something.

Honestly I had a negative opinion based on the stereotype at first, but all the girls I’ve met have been really nice and friendly so I really haven’t found anything go back up their bad rep

The girls eat salad for every meal. Toxic environment where everything is expected to be perfect

active from a different house -

they seem really polished and put together. their house definitelyyyyy has appeal and if you deny that then you're just lying to yourself. before i rushed i thought i was going to love phi mu because it just seemed so clean and posh... and don't get me wrong, it definitely is posh but i just felt out of place. it was kind of that feeling of when you're underdressed in a really fancy place, if that makes any sense. and it was obvious they wouldn't take girls who weren't attractive and/or connected. their house is beautiful and is one of my personal favorites. i only know of one phi mu so i can't really talk on behalf of their girls or sisterhood. but the girl i do know is from my high school and she's really humble. she was also really popular and really pretty.

so yeah in my opinion phi mu LOOKS great. but it's important to remember that all that glitters is gold.

About 2500 girls will rush. Even if half show a strong interest in a house, it’s going to be a competitive environment in which to get a bid.

Doesn’t matter what the other half thinks of them.

FPhi Mu is one of the few houses that generates that much interest

But there is also a notable percentage that it’s going to throw shade for a variety of reasons

I think everybody understands that they are that perfect house, put together, and all that goes with it.
