by: please helpso I heard this is a thing & I want to know how often it happens. who writes negative recommendations about people & what do they even say? do sororities automatically drop girls if there are negative recommendations written about a pnm?

If it’s a rec from an alum of our specific chapter we’ll probs give it good weight in deciding whether or not to drop. They’re not common. It’s usually just a really involved/ proud alum that cares too much about her chapter or something blah blah lol. They usually just say the girls a QR risk or something like that. Maybe like 1/2000 recs will be something like a girl just sending a note with a PNMS name like “oh this girl slept with my boyfriend” something like that is super rare. But you’d be surprised the amount of alums that will tell you if someone if a girl is a risk.. we usually keep those letters to ourselves so not to cause an uproar or something with girls who might be friends and just consider it when making cuts

I'm a couple of years out, and yes I read greekrank, but there is a girl I used to go to church with who was thinking about rushing last year and she had been a bullying problem at church for a very long time. She decided not to rush, but if she had I would have sent a negative rec about this. My chapter accepts both positive and negative recs from any alum and women in chapters at other schools.
I think most alums would only send in a negative rec for very serious issues, but I won't discount the possibility of petty people out there. The recruitment teams that deal with the recs know how to weight the information that comes in though.

what if a resentful active in a sorority writes negative recommendations to serveral houses because she doesn’t want a pnm to get in? would that active get in trouble & would the recommendations even be considered by the houses?
