am i legacy??
by: QuestionsMy grandma, mom, and sister were all not in sororities. But I do have aunts and cousins who were in sororities at different schools. Am I still considered a legacy? And would it be helpful for them to write me recommendations even if I’m not a legacy through them?

it depends on the house in terms of legacy status. if you go onto ua panhellenic's page you can then go to each sorority's profile and it will state whether or not they consider aunts and cousins legacies.
and they can write recs for you even if you're not a legacy from them. actually literally any alum can write a rec for you, whether you know them well or not.

Some houses do consider cousins legacies but the ones that don't won't really take your cousin being in that sorority at another school into consideration. I would definitely have them write you recs though because they know you more personally than a random alumn you email!

There is no such thing as 'near legacy status' with any nationals or chapter. Anyone who says different has no idea what they are talking about. Those people can write you a rec but it won't be better than any other rec, especially if they aren't Bama alums. If you have cousins currently sitting in a house here it would help, but not as legacy, just as strong support in that house.
