advice for talking during rush?
by: AdviceWhat should I talk about during rush? I am super social but feel like I am gonna be nervous and blow it during rush. What’re some talking points incase I get nervous. Any things to keep in mind?

for the most part, let the active lead the conversation but make sure your answers are fun and sincere. like when an active asks you, "how are you liking rush so far" don't just say "it's been good" and stop talking... go into depth, talk about how you're nervous yet excited, talk about how you can't wait to see where you end up, etc. or when an actives asks, "how was your summer" don't just say "it was fun, i went on vacation to XYZ"and leave it at that, go into depth about what you did, talk about how it was fun having one last summer break before college, talk about prepping for rush.
in general, don't think too much... a good conversationalist let's things just go with the flow. don't get into the mindset of thinking that the conversations need to hit certain points and follow a path.
actives SHOULD be trained to handle awkward silences and direct the conversation properly. IF you're stuck with an active that isn't carrying the conversation well, which happens more often than houses like to admit, turn the conversation back on her... ask her how her rush experience went, ask her how she's liking greek life so far, ask her why she chose XYZ... but this should really be a last resort type of thing, like only start asking the actives in depth questions if the conversation reallyyyy isn't going anywhere or if there are very obvious blank pauses.

I had a great convo about missing my mom's pot roast at pref, it sometimes is completely random. But, if you come up with some interesting things you did over the summer, or some unique facts about you, or even just your favorite things to do in your spare time, having thought a little about it ahead of time will make you feel more prepared.
