no more quota

by: help

How will Panhellenic's decision to take away the Upperclassmen Quota affect Sophomores? Does anyone else find it incredibly unfair for Panhellenic to take away the quota and basically force all older girls to not have a chance at established sororities and have to go with Sigma Kappa as their only option? I have several friends that are rushing as Sophomores and I'm really worried for them. They're great girls with good high school and college GPA's, good high school and college involvement, and great personalities... and they would be great additions to multiple sororities on campus. I guess I just don't know how to comfort them about this situation when I feel like they don't really have a chance strictly because of this no more quota system....

"Re-rushing"

So no one wanted them the first time, why would anyone want them the second time.

To respond to @lol and @well, there are also lots of girls who rush as sophomores because they weren’t able to rush for various reasons freshman year and didn’t want to do COB or girls who transfer to Alabama and weren’t in Greek life at the school they transferred from
IMO, this may hurt sophomores chances at OR houses if they don’t have friends in the house, but I think in NR houses it won’t matter as much because a girl with a college GPA and hopefully some on campus involvement is less risky than a far OOS girl no one knows who may end up being a grade or pr problem

As it has been said over and over on threads like these, the upperclassmen will be fine. Houses would much rather take a good sophomore than a below average freshmen. Panhellenic isn’t required by the NPC to have upperclassmen quota at all, and at schools that do have it, taking it away when a new sorority colonizes is pretty common. Your friends will be fine.

Also, no offense, but nothing to do with recruitment is fair. Girls can be cut for literally any reason. It’s kind of silly to be mad at an institution that’s main purpose is being exclusive.

The only houses that upperclassmen quota mattered and worked for were to mid to lower houses that needed numbers. Now, most houses don’t need those numbers. Most upper houses don’t use the additional quota because they hit their targeted numbers easily every year. I’m in an OR house, we take great sophomores and we don’t bother with the upperclassmen quota. Our house is already full and we get the girls we want. Your friends who are sophomores will need to present themselves as well as other freshman and they will get a home. If they are reputation risks or their college grades are below 3.3, then they might need present themselves significantly better than the freshman to do ok.
