concerned
by: RTR
Hi!
I'm an active and growing concerned about the significant downsize of registered PNMs for fall '18 recruitment. I was PC '16, the largest recruitment ever. '17 was smaller by several hundred and now '18 is smaller yet. Do you think it's because of higher suggested GPA requirements or an overall growing lack of interest. Will there be a lot of last minute girls registering? Is anyone else concerned?

Definitely not. What concerned me was when my sorority hit over 450 members, nationals increasingly had no idea what to do with our chapter because our processes and policies became completely ineffective, and our chapter advisor started recommending exec members go to counseling for stress. Honestly something has to be done.

many reasons:
- being baby sat. lack of parties. you have to register to throw a party. you can only throw a party certain nights, etc
- more and more oos come here. so it's not so much of a oh i don't know anyone here, i'll join a sorority. their is social media. you can be from oh idk new jersey and automatically find 100 other jersey girls here.
- keep in mind a weak greek system is a good thing...it means everything else is going great. city has more to offer, school has more clubs/sports you can join, football team is doing great, etc. when you have a strong greek system...it means the place sucks and there is nothing else to do.

Less PNMs registering means less competition. It could mean the beginning of a shift away from Greek life, it means less interest in Greek life. I personally have very good grades but I don't believe sorority life should be reserved for girls with only high grades. I personally don't simply "bond" with girls just because of high grades. A shrinking Greek system could eventually mean more financial stresss to pay for $15 million dollar mansions...and potentially higher dues as enrollment declines for future PCs. At some point Greek life will be formonly the wealthiest and smartest girls. While smaller PCs have some obvious advantages, it will come with downside too!

Nothing but the truth, and the sad thing is a lot of OOS and a few in-state families think PNM should all get a bid just because they have paid to rush and have decent B+ gpa's. That's not how things should work. Honestly it wouldn't be so bad if there were Fall and Spring structured rush but that is more work than any type of solution.
