Alabama has one of the biggest Greek systems in the country. There are so many girls that go through each year (over 2,300 last year) that there is no way there are only enough "top" girls to fill two "top" sorority pledge classes of 140 or more girls each. To say Phi Mu and AXO are the only two "top" sororities is just incorrect.
The whole rank/tier thing is stupid, but if you are going to try to do it, I agree that there are three or four tiers AT MOST. Given that different PNMs are attracted to different kinds of sisterhoods, its pretty impossible to slice it thinner than that.
To me, OP has given a pretty accurate description of how the different sororities are currently viewed on campus (NO ranking within tiers!)

yo yes. i thought i was the only one who saw it like that. pi phi has really good grades a pretty clean reputation. i also feel like they're a lot more present and social than alpha gam. maybe thats just me since I'm in a nr house and don't see much of or besides axo or pm. and i guess you could say that pi phi has inconsistent pledge classes but so does alpha gam.
