going greek does not help your grades
by: wow
Your grades were good before you rushed, they had to be to get a bid. Greek life won't take someone with a 2.0 and transform them into a A/B student. There's a minimum GPA requirement to begin with, that's why the average greek GPA is high. You can't go greek without having a high GPA to begin with!
Of course it serves as a motivation to keep your grades up, but it doesn't make you smart.

I agree with the statement that Greek life won't transform you into the perfect student but it definitely does help. As someone who has been on academic probation with my sorority (my sorority put anyone with under a 3.0 semester GPA on academic probation) I can say that there's a lot of incentive and support to work hard and achieve good grades. On probation, I couldn't go to any swaps or date parties. I couldn't even be a sober monitor at them. It sucked. But my house had monthly meetings with our academic advisors and alum to keep us on track. On top of that, we had significantly increased study hours that had to be logged at a library. My house also had an insanely big test bank. My house also had tutors for most subjects come in every Sunday afternoon.
Greek life isn't going to transform you into an overachieving student but sororities undoubtedly provide an immense collection of resources to help their girls. I know girls who have had very average grades in high school and they've become an A/B student because of the consistent support my sorority provided. Idk that's just my take on it. Also I guess it's worth noting that my house is usually somewhere in the top 7 in the grade report.

My house helped me a ton as a nursing major. I was able to get tutors and everything for chem and micro about 2-3 times every week for free ( technically in sorority fees). if i didnt have tutors through my house i would have had to pay way more for outside tutors. Most GOOD tutors charge 50-100 per 2 hour session. The grad student tutors are cheap but are terrible compared to the tutors through my sorority. I went from having a 2.1 in recruitment ( and being put in a low GPA house) to now having a 4.0. SO it technically does help grades depending on the person.
