full cards and expectations

by: Active

I don't know if PNM's actually read this board or not, but I went through recruitment two years ago and the one thing I wish I knew was that not everybody, and seemingly very few, get full cards.

Not everybody gets invited back to the maximum number of parties each round.

Also wondering what others experiences were in this regard

I have no idea what percentage or the actual numbers, but in sharing cards with girls each round, there are a lot of cuts. Some girls had very few houses right after IWT.

I don't know if the changes this year are expected to change that.

I was from out of state and trying to meet new people. Thankfully had a good rush with full cards. I was excited and sharing with other girls in my rho chi and dorm floor. Had I known, may have been a little bit more reserved and kept it to myself.

It actually became a bit of a sore spot with my roommate and my rho chi group kind of split along the invite list differences that developed. \n\n\n\n\n

Having a full card is not all it's cracked up to be. You have a lot more parties, you're exhausted, and houses kind of run together. I honestly envied my room mate because she had some time to rest and relax during the day and didn't have the stress I did. Something to think about.

Truth about recs..

So everyone I asked or my mom knew (and my mom was Greek too) seemed to be in the same handful of houses. I could have gotten 15 recs for DDD, PiPhi and Kappa but no matter how hard I tried I could not find a recs for AOPi, AXO, AGD, etc. so I too doubt everyone got recs to all sixteen houses. It was so hard! I will say, I did better with invites back to houses where I did have recs bit recs only take you so far! Just do your best...and it's not worth stressing over!

EXACTLY!!!!
This is at least one of the reasons I feel the OP is stretching it (she has a lot of holes imo & no OP I'm not stalking you). Coming from a fam of Greeks usually you're limited to their social circle and when their colleges don't have as many houses as BAMA good luck.

PC 15, from far OOS with only one in-house connection, recs for ~half the houses (my biggest rush regret is not getting one for every house!!), cute but not stunning, 3.5 gpa and decent high school involvement
16-6-4-1. The house I ended up in turned out to be the perfect fit, but rush was pretty rough for me and it took me a few months to really fall in love with my house.
My advice for PNMs is to not be let down if your rush isn’t a perfect experience, and really give wherever you end up a fair shot.

Everyone I know had full cards. This site made it seem like it was so rare, but it was really rare to find people without full cards

No not impossible but it would greatly depend upon the houses that invited you back and their return history. So are you in Theta or Gamma Phi?

I agree that it’s hard to get recs for all the houses. I could get a lot from some houses but there were some I couldn’t even find Phi Mu is impossible to find

I I went into rush being from OSS and had no in house connections. I got a full card back each round and had a3.0. I went in not knowing half the sororitys names and such an open mind. I'm now in an old row house that has a very high gpa requirement. So just because u don't meet everything doesn't mean u won't get houses back

I had a 3.7, very involved in high school and above average looks, but not a stunner. I’m from GA and had recs to every house except AGD, AOPi and GPB. I was dropped by AXO, KKG, AGD and AOPi. I’m in an Old Row house.

Recs are so important!

From Ohio, 3.5 gpa, very involved in high school, decent looking, and personable. My aunt was greek and helped me some, and the local panhel alumni helped where they could, but I only had recs to 11 houses, and only had 2 at 2 houses. My card was 16-7-5-2, and that first round of cuts sucked (I lost a smaller percentage after that each round so it didn't feel as bad). I was definitely jealous of the girls that were invited back to more, but the best thing you can do is to make sure the chapters you do have don't know you are disappointed.

PNMs, do what you can, all of it helps, but sometimes you just cannot get recs for everything. You may get cut hard and it will hurt (it's such a long week that you're tired and stressed and more emotional than usual), but you are almost guaranteed to end up somewhere, and for me I'm so happy with my chapter.

Sorry - for all the rec discussion here, didn't see it as that important.

PC 16 and had a random number of recs to houses friends and family were from, and my invites didn't correlate. And, it wasn't like the "bottom" houses were the ones where it didn't matter.

A good friend in PC17 had a similar experience and in comparing invites all the way to pref, seriously couldn't determine a top house where it limited us - combines over the two years.

I know this is going to get serious down votes.

Think it may be more true for OOR, where top houses may want girls of a certain "type" that may not come with all the awareness/knowledge to get recs to each house.

Seems they are open to good pnms from OOR even without recs.

Down vote all you want, but this was my experience.
