something that has to be said
by: TruthyI can't even with all the pnm posts asking about rank. It's literally different for each group of girls. If you're instate, you like one set of houses. If you're oos, you look at those houses and realize they're the bottom houses everywhere else in the country. If you have top grades you like certain houses, if you party too much you like others. So just stop trying to make your mind up before recruitment. Keep and open mind. Realize that lots of girls choose the houses that get ranked on the bottom because, guess what, alums are doing 90% of the ranking on this stupid site. So just relax. No one cares which house you're in unless you have a grandmother who was in a house here. The girls that are the most unhappy are the ones that choose a house for it's reputation or rank. The ones who are happiest choose one because of the girls.

This started out good but went down fast. It’s completely counterproductive to say “have an open mind” and then call half of the houses garbage. Girls do choose old row houses for the sisterhood, you know. That’s not exclusive to NR.
PNMs, literally go wherever the helI you want. OR, cool. NR, cool. If you pledge Alpha Gam and go back to California in four years, cool. The most important part of your sorority membership is the four years you are at school so don’t give a f what the rep is at home. Dont give a f what the rep is at school, for that matter.

Chi Omega and Kappa Kappa Gamma are some of the strongest national chapters and they’re both OR. Delta Zeta is NR and not as strong nationally. Zeta Tau Alpha is NR and almost nonexistent on the west coast, Colorado, Utah, etc.
All that matters is you pledge where you feel comfortable. Sure there are some advantages to having a really strong chapter nationally, but it’s the one here that’s going to mean the most. Just because it doesn’t have the highest rush return rates (or maybe it does who knows) doesn’t mean a House is/isn’t top for YOU.

There is a lot of truth in the op. She doesn't mention OR or NR, just saying since people got their panties in a wad thinking she was critical of OR. Just calm down and get the overall meaning which is good. Go with how you really feel so you don't end up miserable during your time in college. All our houses are good and you'll have more fun as a out of state girl in a house that's not 90% small town Alabama. That's just a fact. So don't read this site and think you're a failure if you don't get a top house -- it may not be a fit for you for a number of reasons.

No, I think the point she was trying to make is that PNMs shouldn't blindly follow ranks that are obviously biased based on OR status. There are several OR houses that fall short and have so for years, yet the moment wants to bump a deserving NR house above it people freak out because they've been conditioned to believe that OR holds prestige... I think the OP just worded it wrong but that was her main point. And I think a lot of people agree with her. Joining a house solely based on status will never do anything for you, and there have been handfuls of first hand testimonies of girls who did so and regretted it.
And the OP is also right about how some OR houses have weak nationals. PM and AGD are basically nonexistent outside of the SouthEast. KD has a few strong chapter across the nation but there are a lot more strong chapters across the country such as Theta, DG, and ADPi.
