Can someone explain why Kappa is generally accepted as a "top" house? When I rushed I spoke to pretty average girls who were pretty calm and many of them didn't seem to be those in your face competitive type girls you see in other "top" houses. Additionally, after 2 years at Bama the Kappas I've met are again nothing extraordinary... And I don't mean that in a rude way, it's just a lot of them don't seem to have super outgoing personalities. And I've also noticed Kappa has very mixed pledge classes... There are their main girls from instate, then the smart/fun girls from OOS, and then a shockingly high amount of girls who seem to have gotten a bid just to fill up their pc.

Because it’s old row and has the tradition of being top... crazy moms have to have their daughters be kappas to follow their legacy (main reason why it’s mostly in state girls). These girls are trained to be sorority material and have been wanting kappa all their life. In reality I’d say they have average looking girls, above average grades, average philanthropy and sisterhood.... something a lot of houses have. I’d honestly compare them to Aoii or DG if it wasn’t the fact that they are old row and mostly in state

You just said why these girls are a good house- they are not in your face competitive, they have fun girls, they have smart girls, they have in-state, they have OOS, and they have girls that just seemed to click with them (but look like they belong in another house), and they are OR. Most Kappas are not are boring. They can have a conversation with you, not at you. They seem to make anyone feel welcome to their parties and encourage you to join in their silliness. They really want to have a good time when they go out. One of my best friends is a Kappa. She is a sweetheart and I enjoy her friend group.

Family connections. And I've never known one that wasn't rich rich rich.

Maybe in the old days when most of the rich and connected girls all went Kappa, Tri Delt and KD. But that's just not true anymore. With 400 members in each sorority, you will find a mix of rich and not-as-rich, connected and not-as-connected girls in every house!

Everyone has lauded kappa for pulling top out of state girls. I can’t speak on out of state girls who have pledged kappa, since I’m an in state girl. I completely agree that appealing to more OOS girls is a step in the right direction, and helps improve the status of any house. No house should just focus on in state girls.

That being said, a house should focus on quality instate and out of state girls. being from in state, I see the girls that pledge kappa from Alabama. They definitely still have great pull over Montgomery, mountain brook, and mobile. But all in all, Kappa has a less than impressive pull from the rest of towns and cities in the state. Many girls are turned off by kappa’s wild reputation, especially the girls from small towns.

To in state girls, the most appealing houses with the most pull are alpha gam, kd, Tri delt, chi o and alpha chi.

KKG takes a good number of in state QRs.

Unless you are from one of the towns in #6, kappa is not a top house for in state girls
