any chance at all?

by: Bama22

I am an OOS PNM from CT with an 80 average at one of the top public high schools in the state. Do I have any chance to join an Alabama sorority as a freshman?? Not making any excuses for my less than impressive GPA— just want to understand my options, if any. Thank you.

80 percent is a B-. Borderline C+. That translates to a 2.7.

Your chances are slim to none. Maybe get your GPA up freshman year and rush as a sophomore.

I was on the fence about rushing my freshman year. I knew my GPA was low but I came from a very competitive and well respected private HS in CA. I decided to focus on my grades and I had zero problems making friends who were not in sororities or fraternities. That being said, I loved my all-girl HS and how we always came together to work for our school philanthropy and how close and supportive we were. I knew I wanted a sisterhood, so I was open to Spring Recruitment ( I was invited to three houses but didn’t receive a bid) and I rushed my sophomore year with a 3.6 GPA ( I was well prepared for college because of my stringent HS, even if my HS grades didn’t reflect that) and I had a great recruitment. I now have over a 3.7 GPA, so I can let you know that you can be successful in college and sorority, but maybe it’s not for everyone to start both at the exact same time.
