panhellenic insta story gpa requirements

by: .

On the Panhellenic insta story, they just posted a breakdown of how many houses to expect back each day based on your GPA. For pref, it says:
3.6 - 4.0 = 1 to 2 houses
3.2 - 3.5 = 0 to 1 houses
2.75 - 3.1 = n/a

Rushing with under a 3.2 is not worth it because you will not be getting any houses back for pref

and rushing with a 3.2 to 3.5 is iffy because you may get 1 house you may get none

Every house chooses their PNM’s differently, but in my OR house, we cut first round for grades unless she’s a legacy or she has a very specific circumstance. We will cut a girls after that based on conversation and how well we feel they fit us. We are not a “grades” house, but we do want to improve our GPA. We are not a “looks” house, but we want our members to be able to present themselves well. We are not a “religious” house, but we appreciate girls who are and will support them. We look for sisters who can handle the pressures of college life and time commitment to our house and other campus organizations. Your grades are definitely part of the equation. If you have under a 3.3 and still want to give recruitment a try, be very open to any house and take it as a learning experience. You will get to meet a lot of amazing girls, you will get to move in early and if you start getting dropped, there are other campus activities going on to allow to to meet other people. Do not be the girl who asks “ I have a 3.0 GPA but I have this, that, and the other thing. Will I get house A, B or C?” The answer is maybe, if you are really lucky. You might get a house if you are humble and look for sisters and not a rank.

Panhellenic is trying to warn sub 3 gpa that formal recruitment may disappoint. Keep sigma kappa in mind... they are....

If what Panhellenic says holds true won’t there be much smaller pledge classes?

It’s hard to believe the chapters with lower grade averages would make such a drastic change in one season

Yes. I think their strategy is to discourage these PNMs from rushing in the first place.

I am in a house that is on the lower end of the grade report and I have to say unless panhellenic raises the number of cuts across the board each round, I doubt these 3.0 and 3.1 girls are going bidless. Panhel usually gives us a number that doesn’t even allow us to cut all the sub 3.0 girls which is frustrating.

When I rushed 2 years ago I had a 3.4 unweighted GPA and after ice water teas I was left with only 3 houses. Rush is COMPETITIVE. A 3.4 is not bad by any means and is generally above average at a lot of high schools. I also had a handful of strong extra curriculars. GRADES MATTER. I'm sorry but the honest truth is that high school is not hard, even if you went to a "hard private school." And all these college girls aren't going to cut you slack just because you chose not to take high school seriously.

no offense, but maybe it was your appearance or personality? i don't know what you look like but already you sound a little abrasive and bossy, and like you are trying too hard.

Lol okayyy. Looking back I only had recs for a handful of houses (because I'm from the NorthEast and NO ONE told me about how important recs are at Bama). I now know a handful of houses cut first round solely on grades and recs. And to be completely honest my appearance probably did have a big influence too. At the time I was chubbier than your average girl and I did not know how to apply makeup so it would withstand an entire day of sweat. But in terms of my personality, I was very nice, very calm, and very well spoken in all the houses.

MY POINT was that a lot of girls underestimate how important grades are...

And the bottom line... these are multimillion dollar mansions that cost a ton to run. Each house NEEDS a certain number of warm bodies.Grades are important but each house still needs a certain amount of $$$ coming in.

This is true to an extent but we were also running them just fine a few years ago at 350. Most sororities hit around 450 this past year and that is just absurd. Most of the extra cost comes with the food needed for the extra girls, bigger venues for events, larger retreat budgets, etc so if we don’t have them that cost goes away.

The added staffing is also an issue. We have had house staff quit because of all the extra work and we cannot get the extra people in to do the work even though we have the money. In my house, we have so many girls that want to live in the house. We only have 70 spots for 150 girls. Then, we get parents (mom’s, mostly) complaining if their DD doesn’t get in the house to EVERYONE! It’s a nightmare. We already have to eat in three shifts. Honestly, house totals around or under 350 would be so sweet.
