If you are from OOS and don't know anyone from Bama, why would you care about ranks? They are all great houses. As long as you are put together and can carry a good convo you should be able to find a house that's a good fit. and when I say "you should be able to find a house" what I really mean is at least one of the houses should want to keep inviting you back so you can have the chance to get a bid from them.

Your grades are really hurting you here. Alpha Chi, Chi O, Tri Delt, Kappa, Phi Mu, Alpha Gam, I’m pretty sure KD, Pi Phi, ADPi out of the top and middle houses will most likely cut you for your GPA. If you’re a legacy to any of those, you may get invited back after first cuts due to national policy, but will probably get cut going into pref. Your best bet for a mid-tier house is Zeta Tau Alpha, especially if you are pretty and social like you said. Otherwise, I suggest not caring about ranks. Some of the bottom houses may cut for your GPA as well. Don’t be afraid to get great grades in college and re-rush as a sophomore if it doesn’t work out this year. Not trying to be mean, just realistic.

I came from far OOS with a lowish GPA my freshman year. I wasn’t sure I wanted to manage sorority life and college life in the same year while transitioning to a school so far away. I had no problems making friends ( although it was a bit daunting the first few days living in Tut and most of the girls there were in sorority houses). I still found girls in Tut that weren’t in sororities ( and, guess what, they were not unattractive or weird. They were just unsure about getting involved in sorority life, too). I rushed my sophomore year. Some of my friend group also rushed as sophomores, some didn’t. My GPA was much higher and I had a very successful recruitment, even if I didn’t fully appreciate how successful it was at the time. I got dropped by too, middle and lower houses throughout the week. I went through pref with three houses, two “top” OR and one “middle” NR. My friends also had three houses, too, of mixed ranks. I actually chose one of the OR’s because I loved it all week. My friends chose different houses than me but we are still best friends. Be open to all the houses that ask you back. Your GPA is your biggest risk, especially since no one can vouch for you. If you want to wait a year, it worked out fine for me and for my friends.
