two pref parties

by: KC

I read on another post that we are going to PNMs attending a max of two Pref parties. In years past the party structure was 16-12-8-3. How will this change with only two Pref parties? Will it be 16-12-8-2? Or will the other rounds change too?

Also, I see this as a positive for PNMs. (Often there is a great divide between their number two and three house.) How to you see this affecting chapters? Which sororities will benefit most from this new structure?

The round before pref will be 7 I’m pretty sure and then down to 2 parties. When I talked about it with people in my pledge class: we all felt that it was good because it’s so much easier to pick between two... and no one REALLY wants their third house. However I think it’ll be hard for chapters that really are able to pull girls in on pref night. Like if you rank a house third in your mind but end up loving them, there won’t be that option. Overall good for the PNMs, interesting for the houses.

The tears will start soonr for some. They may not have a house at pref they wanted.

One one hand, girls may be able to manage the disappointment better

However, ithey also may develop stonger feelings about one house or the other, with two. If they don't get the fav, it may be harder.

Not sure I'm a fan.

oh you’re right I didn’t even think about people being upset about not getting a house!!! much harder cuts when it only goes down to two! a lot of people on our rush team didn’t seem to be big fans either! But it is what it is I guess loll

So which tier/sororities are the winners and who are the losers with this change? Will this effect the percentage of girls that are placed?

What is RFM?

Release Figure Methodology. You aren't an active on a recruitment committee so don't worry about it.

It's the PNM's who will be most affected, not so much any of the sororities. PNM's will know a little better where they stand sooner rather than later and be able to really concentrate on their two remaining choices knowing each house is a real chance. Things will get real earlier so I think there will be less drops on bid day. The cuts made by the houses for the pref round will be based on RFM just like always. It's just split between two parties rather than three. Anyone invited to a house's prefs is on their bid list somewhere, so for the houses it's just their bid list; the number of parties is not at issue.

But if the houses only have two parties worth of names instead of three on their bid lists, won't it be more likely that they could run through them without making quota? Does that mean more snap bids? It seems like that could hurt the mid and lower tier houses...

The number of parties a house hosts still depends on RFM. With three prefs, some houses only hosted three or four parties, and some hosted at least seven. No worries for running out of girls

Exactly. The houses will invite as many back for pref as RFM will allow just like always. The number of parties the houses host won't decrease because there will still be the same total number of PNM's attending the pref round. One less pref for PNM's doesn't translate to less girls being invited by the houses.

The PNMs have two parties, the sororities have the possibility of nine parties...I guess it depends on their return rates.
