grades

by: OP

Does anyone have a prediction for grade rankings this semester? For reference, last semester
1. Axo (3.66), 2. Xo (3.64), 3. Agd (3.62), 4. ADpi and ddd tied (3.52), 6. Kd (3.49), 7. AOPi (3.48), 8. Kkg (3.47), 9. Kat (3.46), 10. Phi Mu (3.45), 11. Dg (3.43), 12. Pbp and adx tied (3.41), 14. ZTA (3.28), 15. Dz (3.26), 16. Sdt (3.21), 17. Gpb (3.07), 18. A phi (2.87)
Who moves up or down? Why? Just curious as to people’s thoughts and predictions!

Wow. Not Much difference really from 1 to 14 and everyone other than gphi and APhi are doing pretty darn well. Makes me wonder why or how grades becomes a major point of distinction. Wish we could know if there are trends or patterns on majors and interests more so than just a 400 person average gpa

I mean 1-15

3.6 versus 3.3

Those are all solid to high b average

Gphi will probably get even worse now that their seniors have graduated. Say what you will but the majority of those girls were keeping the house afloat grade wise. Hopefully they will make good choices this recruitment.

I think chi o and ddd are going to come up & be tops. Axo, theta and agd have so many smart girls in hard majors... others not so much. So it’s all relative.

Hey jerk, check your facts while you’re spewing them. 40% have over a 30 on their ACT.

My mom is involved with her chapter of a very well known and respected Catholic University where the typical incoming freshman has a 4.2 GPA. They have around 125 members total in their houses at this university with 7 Panhellenic sororities. No house has an average above 3.6. The fact that we have 4 times the membership and higher GPA’s says a lot about how much more emphasis we place on grades to our members after they arrive here.

Bless your heart @um,no.

Are you seriously comparing a Villanova, Loyola, Marquette or a Santa Clara to Bama?

Besides needing an in-state pulse for Bama admissions, what else is there? A 20 on the ACT?

Maybe gym classes for grades and education majors might just be inflating the Bama sorority GPAs--or MAYBE it's because the 125-member Catholic university your mama advises is much more RIGOROUS than Bama to begin with. Duh.

@um,no Bless your own heart.

Just checked Loyola and Marquette, and just over 20% of their incoming freshman class fell between a 30 and 36 on the ACT. Bama's incoming freshman class percentage in that score range was 40%. Check it yourself on the collegedata site.

So do elite school snob posers like you learn basic math and how to look up simple facts? Or are you a Bama student who slipped in with a pulse?

Well, to be fair to @lmao -- no Wall Street investment banks or companies like Google or Oracle are actually lining up on Paul Denny to hire most of you gals. That takes top grades from truly elite institutions -- and natty rings don't impress the likes of Wall Street or Silicon Valley.

But, hey, if a 3.66 makes y'all have bragging rights in Mountainbrook, then hell yeah-you go girls. But let's not pretend that all GPAs are created equal.

Oh-- and you OOS scholars -- y'all followed the bountiful OOS scholarships for your 30 ACT, and not because Bama compared favorably to most private schools, or big state schools like Michigan or UVA
No shame in that-- Bama gives a gal from Massachusetts a near full ride she couldn't get from Boston University, or much less get in.

Though very rude, the comment from "to be fair" is actually pretty accurate. Elite employers don't recruit from Bama or the SEC in general, besides Vandy, and if there are any pickings at all they are very very very slim, and many of the top employment destinations are for MBA and Law School graduates. Don't believe me? Look at the opportunities on Handshake, they're not very impressive!

For example, no VC recruits at UA, nor does JPM, CS, DB, UBS, Cravath, Bain, O'Melveny, McK, BCG, etc. - and the very few positions at good employers are typically pretty bad. Deloitte recruits UA grads, but not for their prestigious strategy practice. Tesla recruits there, but for sales & service positions not for their engineering or innovation divisions. And Goldman does selectively recruit at Alabama, yes, but not for analyst or associate-track jobs. How do I know? Because my company was recruiting a girl (a Phi Mu) last fall and she turned us down for a sales gig at GS. (Yes, I am a little bitter both as a UA grad and as a recruiter.)

The cold truth is, elite employers simply recruit at higher caliber schools than UA. Prestige companies might at best offer up a handful of junky jobs at Alabama but offer 30 executive-track positions at schools like UNC, UVA, Texas, Berkeley or Michigan (and those are just the public schools). And UA grads tend to stay in the region for the most part so that means even fewer opportunities. Sad but true. Roll Tide.

(Also the average ACT here is a 27 but whatever makes you happy)

OH EXCUSE ME -- 27 ACT, Now THAT is really something. Much more than your cousin who married your other cousin got on his ACT.

Alert Goldman Sachs on that new data point! No need to recruit at Vandy or any other the truly elite schools --

I stand corrected.

The ONLY reason Bama has anyone with a ACT over 28 is due to the OOS kids who Bama intentionally recruits with bags of $$$ and desperately needs to raise a dismal in-state academic profile. And to laud it over Ole Miss is just rich! People, you are a football program first, college second. But hey, if putting Ole Miss down makes you feel better -- OK. But don't pretend that you're at some intellectual powerhouse of a school. NO ONE in the real world outside considers a 3.66 GPA at Bama as noteworthy or equivalent to the same GPA at a nationally ranked research university or selective LAC.

By: ok
by: LMAO still

Except the chapters with lowest GPAs at Bama are almost exclusively OOS, and the chapters with the highest percentage of in-state girls have the highest GPAs.

Explain please.

The topic was sorority GPAs, not comparing Bama to elite research institutions. No one attempted a ridiculous off-topic comparison other than you.

What is it that has you so upset? All anyone has said is that Alabama grads go on to get good jobs that they are very happy with. I’m not sure what about that justifies your belittling, especially since very little of what you have said is factually correct. Everyone here knows we don’t go to Harvard, but the quality of education is still great and it isn’t hard for UA grads to find worthwhile employment.

Would be very interested to see what fine institution you attend.

Now, ole Nicky Saban has some worthwhile employment.

You are completely clueless. Alabama grads are killing it on Wall Street, Broadway (have you heard of a little play called Hamilton?- we’ll check the lead role) and wherever they want. The second biggest UA alumni association is located in NYC. NYC loves Alabama!!

Our football team wins national championships, gets drafted and comes back to graduate. I’m sorry your college experience isn’t fulfilling you.

Football first, always; academics meh.

I get it — it’s hard to admit that academics are the poor stepchild to anything other than the holy house of Saban. I mean at least ole Nick is smart enough to get that $7.0 M deal. So let’s not pretend we are top in anything, other than football.
