why are they stressing gpa for sorority recruitment this year? I’m a PNM with an average gpa and i was wondering how low is too low. A 3.2 is suggested and I have that. If you know a lot of people in a house does your gpa matter that much?

Expect cuts from AXO, XO, AGD, DDD unless you have a sister in the house.

I also want to add that you may survive GPA cuts but if they are choosing between you and someone with a higher GPA, you will not be chosen.

A 3.2 is fine. Enjoy recruitment. As long as you a decent convo's, am attractive appearance (no, you don't have to be "hot" or "beautiful"), good recommendations, etc. you should find your home!

GPA is the easiest way to cut during first rounds of recruitment. Especially for the most popular houses.

Also, they stressing GPA because chapters really don't want to risk losing you as a member due to poor grades your freshman year. There are a lot of extra activities during this year and we need women who can study well AND participate

how would this change if i choose to rush as a sophomore instead?

many houses to my knowledge have a different GPA requirement for upperclassmen rushing because you have had the year to prove that you can handle the rigor of college. the same thinking applies in both cases; you have to demonstrate that you can handle college classes if you want to add on the demands of a sorority, and they don't want to put you or the chapter in the position of your grades suffering because you can't handle the commitment.

The above comment is true. They compare freshman and sophomore GPA’s differently because college is harder than high school. They may also look at your major because some are harder than others. Your GPA does not have to be amazing as a freshman or a sophomore but I would say a 3.2 or above is necessary if you want a fuller schedule.

Just also make sure you have strong in house connections if you have a lower GPA.

There's s heavy emphasis on grades and GPA because

1. There are so many girls rushing and so few sororities that the bar had to be raised to filter out some PNMs

2. The image of Greek life has been in the toilet lately so stronger overall academics only helps in terms or reputation and lowered risk or girls doing really dumb things (e.g., HB videos)
