recruitment
by: HilariousI have been here three years. DO you want to know why I joined a sorority? To have fun, make friends, find a place where I connected, go to parties and meet cute guys. I love our philanthropy and I have good grades, but I would have good grades regardless of where I am and I like most of the philanthropies. I feel no shame for not wanting to act as if I am aiming for the Nobel Peace Prize or any thing like that. I wants friends, activities, and parties. I crack up at all the "superficial" comments. Isn't it all a little superficial? I mean the whole recruitment process is a series of brief, random encounters. There is nothing wrong for wanting to be in a sorority for simple the making of friends and memories. Nothing at all.

Not fact. Nobody's criticizing fraternities, just pointing out some well-known facts and comparing them to sororities. What works for one group need not apply to a different group that also works. Nobody in Greek life wants to see fraternities go anywhere, or sororities either. Greek life is simply a collection of social clubs to which individuals must be invited to join. The organizations choose who they want. Or not. People choose to join. Or not. There is no system or entity that forces anyone to join, and neither IFC nor NPC can force any house to take a member they don't want. Totally free choice.

No, we are doing it right because all that is necessary to maintain the strength of the organization. Everyone must participate and do her part to keep the chapter successful. We have to vet our potential members to find those who will keep up their grades, who will fully participate, who will take a leadership role, who will pay their dues, who will be a good sister, and who will protect the good name of the chapter. Membership selection is as much about maintaining the organization itself as it is about offering all those benefits of membership. "To have fun, make friends, find a place where I connected, go to parties and meet cute guys" - none of that happens on its own! It exists because of members' hard work and dedication and financial resources that make the chapter work. No chapter needs a bunch of takers; to get the benefit you need to contribute your part.
