dating non greek guys

So my boyfriend of over a year is going to be coming to Bama too.
No we didn't plan on purposely, it was on both our top 5 schools before we met. He got a non-football athletic scholarship and I decided not to let a guy be a factor in choosing my college. We've decided to stay together like normal through the summer. Then he will be busy with sports and hopefully I'll be pledging so we plan to just wait and see.
He has no interest in a frat but said he'd go to date stuff with me.
Do girls ever date non Greek guys? Is it awkward? Could he ever come to a frat party?

Lots of girls date non-Greek guys, especially after freshman year when people stop being as obsessed with fraternity status. He won’t be able to go to frat parties unless he has friends in the house who invite him to the parties, so that might be difficult if you (as you should) want to go to the fraternities with your friends.
I don’t think it will be awkward, but my advice to you is to make sure you’re making your own friends and have your own life at school that’s not just about him. It sounds like you are independent enough to want that for yourself anyways, but just wanted to put it out there

The bigger issue you will face is how will he handle you going to date swaps and parties at fraternities without him, other than that no one cares if you date a non-greek and since he is an athlete at Bama you will probably get some street cred with your future sorority.

Thanks for your advice. I want to invite him to everything I can (sororities have their own date parties here and formals here, right?) but he will be busy too. Will I probably skip a few frat parties- yes but I want to do all the fun stuff too. We're very chill -didn't even talk during spring break and I'm going to another schools prom with my guy best friend. So as long as its a friend thing I doubt he'd care if I went to a frat date party.

This is true, or it could work out fine. My boyfriend is in college far away, and we've had no trouble staying together my Freshman year with me in a sorority. He's in a school that doesn't allow him to leave whenever he wants, so that means he's not here for date parties or formal.
We were both worried about how it would work out (and he was very concerned about me going to Swaps and stuff), but we've made it work so far. I've even gone to a couple of date parties and a formal with a guy friend, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on much at all.
I'm not naive enough to think that this means that we'll always be together and spend the rest of our lives together, but for now, it is working. I'd imagine its even easier when he's here on campus, and you can see him more than a couple of holidays a year.

I'm a junior and my bf is a freshman at Missouri (he's a year younger then me and took a gap year). We've been doing the long distance thing since I graduated from high school. We love each other a lot and have made it work but I'm honestly not sure how much longer I want to do it. Looking back, I feel like I wasted 3 years bc of this relationship. I hope you make it work but don't forget to do anything you'll regret later. College is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Why can't your boyfriend come for formal? I get travel costs, but I've never heard of a college that doesn't allow students to leave.

Not the OP, but I believe the military colleges and academies are strict about that.

That's correct. He's in a service academy. Next year he's given a little more freedom, but will still miss the big events.

Most date parties are held during the week. A lot of people struggle with the scheduling. I've had some of the less stressful times just going stag with my sisters.
