will this hurt my chances of being in a sorority???

by: hey

i’m going to bama next year as an oos from the midwest. i have a pretty long last name that’s hard to say since my family is from europe. will this hurt my chances at rush or make me seem weird/not given a bid?? i’m pretty outgoing and never have had trouble making friends. also my GPA from hs is on the higher end and was honestly wondering if sorority’s judge 4.0+ gpas as a bad thing (not trying to brag literally just want honest advice). I want to know what to expect during rush & keep an open mind ab all the houses. thx!!!!

This has to be the weirdest post ever.

No one cares what your last name is. Why the hell would they?

Read through here and you will see that GPA DOES matter. Will it get you into a top sorority? Not necessarily, but it will keep you from getting dropped everywhere just for grade cuts.

If you are asking those kinds of questions, it appears that you are completely unprepared for recruitment. Suggest you get educated right away. Do you know about recommendation letters?

I can only speak for my sorority, but we absolutely cut anyone with more than seven letters in their last name. It's just an aesthetic choice that we make. When you list the pledge class, a long name sticks out like a sore thumb. That goes for first names as well.

Also, we hate being anywhere on the top of the GPA chart, so we cut anyone with over a 3.3. Who wants a show off in your sisterhood?

Since you didn't ask, I won't even mention the height requirement.

Seriously, you need to chill.

I don't know about @Well's sorority, but we don't take anyone shorter than 5'3, or taller than 5'7. There's a sweet spot in there where all of our girls come from.

My house adds or subtracts an inch of height, depending on how short or tall, based on GPA above or below a 3.7. It benefits the PNM to have a higher GPA.

You forget that the majority of people here are from out of state. There are very few locals.
Don't worry.
