hate?
by: ??Why the hate for houses like theta, dg, gamma phi, dz? Are they really that bad? Do people actually hate them and dread getting a bid there or is it just this site? What’s wrong with them?

All the houses here are strong and filled with quality girls. Recruitment is so connections driven that outstanding PNMs without connections end up in many different houses.
GPhi got an amazing group last year and they are on the way up. The girls that I know are fun and really nice. A very social house. As their gpa improves they will continue to move up.
Theta consistently takes unconnected, overlooked girls who end up being really strong and involved on campus. They are friendly, smart, and seem to have a great time. It makes no sense why they are always ranked low since everyone knows awesome thetas. They seem to have a solid sisterhood and once they get their new house they will be even better.
DG is low drama and filled with beautiful and smart girls. Great sisterhood and very involved. They have lots of fun and are well liked. They are well rounded version of the girl next door. On any other campus would be a top house and don't belong at the bottom of any list.
DZ and Alpha Phi have some great girls but they struggle with identity and struggle to find the number of quality girls needed to compete here. They take too many questionable pnms. They need to work on their grades and sisterhood but they have enough strong sisters to make turn it around.

As for the comment by "my 2 cents:" why is it bad for women to be ambitious and competitive?
I haven't seen any here tearing down other houses.

I find it incredible that my comment regarding Theta and GPhi was deleted on here. It was a very factual positive comment that noted Theta was a non-machine house and tracked the history of GPhi breaking the color barrier by pledging the first black member and their struggle to recover from it. I believe they are bashed for these reasons and the fact that my comment was removed only strengthens my claims! I wish more sororitys would realize the power they have and stop being the worker bees for the “old boys network” hive at UA. I’ll wait to see how long it takes for this comment to be deleted too!

Are they removing all of the machine posts? There was nothing but truth in your post and nothing against terms of service. It is crazy. Maybe you were too truthful about Theta being filled with quality girls and the moms and alums of GR can't have anyone realizing that the only reason they are ranked low is because they have integrity and are independent of the control. It is true that some PNMs are upset with a theta bid, that is from the tent talk, and rep. from places like here and bad mouthing from houses who can't have Theta do well because of the machine. I went to another NR house but now as an upperclassman, I have some great Theta friends. I think I would have fit in great there but listened to the tent talk and prefed other houses.

Using the term “sorority” is not a derogatory slang term. Most older sororities are actually called fraternities because on the campuses they were founded, only fraternal organizations were allowed. So, sorority combines sorority and fraternity into one feminine term.

Lmao no this issue with “sorority” is that it’s never a term girls here use unless maybe it’s the phrase “sorority star”.

After pref I ranked Theta last and I got a bid to another house. And I dropped before junior year. I just never really fit in. And to this day I wonder what it would have been like had I listed Theta first because honestly, I was more comfortable there. I think they are one of the strongest sororities on campus.

Theta keeps getting bashed by people saying "girls cry if they get a bid there" but in my honest opinion, they really are the leader of all sororities when it comes to making choices based on integrity.They are the only ones who have stood up to the machine, they do not participate in Derby Days, they welcomed OOS before it became it became commonplace, they value grades and campus involvement.... and on top of all that...they have a rep as a great sisterhood and nice women. I think the fact they took one of the biggest pledge classes last year is proof that they are much more liked than other houses, online alumna and internet moms want to admit.

I don’t disagree with the other stuff you said but when a sorority takes a large pledge class it’s because they need the members OR they were not popular during rush. This is because they pref a lot of girls who only had theta on pref and therefore had to go theta. It happens to my house too.

And if they didn't have any QAs, people would be saying they were lucky to make quota. And if they didn't make quota, people would be saying they're about to get shut down ...

I’m not saying QAs are a bad thing, they help keep houses afloat. I’m just saying a huge PC doesn’t mean everyone was just dying to go that house

A great, positive comment - thank you for building up these sororities - really ALL sororities - rather than being hateful. Every chapter at Alabama is actually a top chapter in their own organization. Being mean hurts all our sororities.
