sorority recruitment

Does being from the Northeast hurt(/help?) my chances of getting into a good house (or any house for that matter)? Are OR and NR different in terms of this? I have very few connections, but will region impact me beyond that?

it is a neutral to a slight disadvantage because you are not likely to be known. the top houses like a sure thing. So most NY NJ girls end up in the new row houses because those are the chapters that already have more actives from the Northeast and so they are more open to taking risks. If you already know actives in a house, though, they can vouch for you. As Alpha Phi can attest -- taking risks on unknown pnms can come back to bite and so the more popular houses don't take the risks because they don't have to.

Is there any way to let houses know I don't have a QR prior to rush if I don't really have connections. Not entirely against NR but I don't want to be dropped from a house I really connect with just because I'm OOS or end up in a house like A Phi with national scandals

Your connection would be that those girls are from the same area as you. If you’re not from the south you’re not from the south. Just forget the the whole OR NR

GR ranks and OR are pretty much all about the instate girls, and how they see houses.

If you come from OOS and particularly non southern OOS these ranks mean nothing because you don't know and aren't connected to the instate schools, neighborhoods and churches that create the perception of who is where and how they "rank".

Honestly, recruitment is easy for OOS Because the pressure to be selected by certain girls/houses really isn't there

The "lower ranked" houses are full of great girls.

You may mesh with an OR house and if you do northeast OOS won't hurt you. But honestly, you can just focus on where you fit best

Read and reread above post. OR vs NR and ranks mean nothing at all once on campus. Completely irrelevant to your experience. If you are planning to settle down and live in small town or suburban Alabama it might matter. If you are going home to your high school reunion and there are dozens (hundreds) of bama students, it might matter. If that doesn't apply to you, these ranks are meaningless. Go where you are loved and wanted for being yourself. You will fit in and have an awesome 4years. That could be OR or NR and might be high ranked or low here on GR. All houses on the row are great and better then most any other houses at other schools. You can't go wrong unless you pick for the wrong reasons.

The connections are strong and generational so you would not likely be happy in a house where 80% of your pledge class already has an established friend group, knowledge of the workings of the house, and upperclassmen friends and connections. All houses welcome and love OOS sisters but it is hard to deny that there are strong connections between girls that we have cheered with, danced with, played tennis with, gone to church with, grew up in town with, that we already know so well.
