ATO was a Machine house up until they got tossed off campus in 1996. When they came back in 1998 (backed with full support of Nationals) they opted to no longer be an affiliated house.

Why do our houses still go along? Is it fear that we would become irrelevant without the support? It seems that a few crumbs are spread around when the natives get restless but otherwise it is us women doing the work and pulling in the votes to support the guys. Is this the time to make a change? This would be a great way for OR to show leadership and finally shut up all the Alabama haters.

No one will ever be the first to push for an end to this. Many may follow if there are houses that want to collapse under this by going first and fighting to get out. Everyone knows we should not be involved and many think it is what will bring down all of Greek life here. Right now there are many who are pushing to bury this thread. Do you see every time it gets bumped to the top a whole bunch of old threads or nonsense threads appear. Everyone needs it to just disappear and stop talking about it.
It is the dirty laundry of the row - it feels slimy to everyone but no one can stop it. It is the heroin of greek life here. It is corruption through and through but as long as we are benefiting by not being targeted we will go along. As long we keep making Theta the example, no house will have the guts to ever change things.

The last two houses to snub the machine have been AGD and xo. Went poorly for both. AGD had to humiliate themselves by voting against their sister and xo has been marginalized

to my knowledge it's really just the best candidate to represent the greek community with their resume, platform, personality, skills ect. it's not really a taking turns thing necessarily but it's not like only one house every gets backed for things (I think anyways)

SGA is not as reliant on the machine as in the past. In fact all over campus you will see hard working and competent people running organizations. Your house doesn't make a difference it is you who makes a difference. Even machine marginalized houses have girls heavily involved. Trust the process and you will do fine.

Both of you are wrong! It's not always the best candidate and yes, SGA is heavily determined by the machine.

Saying the one sorority actually brave enough to put women first and take a stand against the machine is ranked at the bottom because of something as superficial as having a small/old house is actually as disturbing as saying they are at the bottom because machine members work to keep them at the bottom.
