For all the PNMs out there, don’t worry too much about how where you are from will impact your rush experience. It is true that OR houses take less OOS girls, but I know girls from far OOS in every old row house who came into rush knowing NO ONE. You will end up in a house that’s a good fit for you, and if a house drops you just because of where you’re from, why would you want to be there anyways?
You can’t change where you’re from, so focus on being your best self and showing houses what a great person you are, because that’s what will be the most important!

Honestly, the only houses around here that really care too much about in-state status are AGD, KD and XO — which happen to be the three least relevant old row houses. From what I can tell so far for recruitment of PC18, things are not changing. Still very in-state focused.

And to follow up on that point — THE MOST RELEVANT AND DESIRED OLD ROW HOUSES are majority OOS with major OOR involvement at all levels. So if you are from OOS or OOR, don’t worry about a thing. Just be you, have your act together, network in advance if you can, and have fun.

But even the OR houses that skew heavy for in-state (if not in recruitment, in their leadership), they are moving in a direction that is certainly more OOS (but not quite there yet on OOR).

What does not go over in any house, though, is criticism of southern culture or southerners. Keep politics out of the discussions. Show sincere interest in doing very well in school and show ambition.
