I'm from chicago and greek life is honestly seen as something for losers at all the nearby schools. very few people from my school went greek in college and those who did weren't very popular or good at making friends.
I don't get why it's such an exclusive popular thing here when its literally the exact opposite most other places
not tryna hate on it, it just kinda makes me curious as to why

Let's be real. People don't think that much about greek life. Some go to college and pledge, other don't. Some view it as paying for friends (GDIs) others don't.
I've never understood these posts making claims that there's some collective thought about greek life that an entire region/city/town agrees with.
Not to mention, you thinking that greek life is for losers who can't make friends does not mean that's how it's viewed "most other places." There are greek systems across the country. Big universities, small liberal arts colleges (never underestimate those schools - they may be small, but when 40% of the student body is greek, that's a stronger system than you realize), the ivy league, the public college.
You do you. Don't assume your opinion or the opinion of your 4 friends represents anything more than just those people.
